I think part of what people find hard to understand is that I think the tariffs are very bad and evil, but that their continued existence also prevents Trump from managing to buy off the rest of the electorate with high growth.
unlike some accusations from yesterday, I do *not* want to see these people immiserated. I do, however, want them to undergo a process of conversion

Actually, “in a Cracker Barrel parking lot” is one of the more common places to find god, only being beaten out by the somewhat more common “diagnosed with incurable terminal illness” and “rock bottom alcoholism”.

I don’t know why this point keeps being made, but the cost of assembling iPhones (“all the little screws”) is a very minor portion of the overall cost of the device. Even onshored, the majority of the tariffs will still be on processors, screen, memory etc.

what baffles me about the White House correspondents dinner was they were self flagellating about how they should have been *more* on top of Biden’s cognitive decline and yet continue to completely ignore the obvious cognitive decline of our current president
the contrast between the journalists at 60 minutes who are risking their careers for their independence and the white house correspondents chuckling at nerdprom about how they helped trump get elected is pretty jarring and infuriating

Purely anecdotal, but my observation is that men who are like "I did some cooking for my family today, here's a photo of my dish" seem like they're mostly pretty happy and men who are like "Men should never cook, frying pans will leech estrogen into your brain" seem like they're never happy.
