Our latest report looks at five 'anti-supply measures' that are a major bottleneck on urban housebuilding and the 1.5m new home target - a quick thread below on what they are, why they're a problem, and how to fix them:

It was weird that the Spanish blackout happened on the day I released my report on what's holding back the European electricity trade. A thread on the paper. TLDR: interconnection exposes countries to each other's energy policy decisions, so it's happening too slowly. www.cer.eu/publications...
Power losses: What's holding back European electricity trade?
The EU is falling behind in its push to create a European power market. This analysis sets out a five-point plan for the EU and national governments to hasten integration.

This week's Substack: I travelled to leafy Wendover to understand how a dispute over a farm track could delay parts of HS2 and cost taxpayers tens of millions of pounds.
I visited Britain's most expensive farm track
A dispute over a farm track in Buckinghamshire could cost taxpayers 'tens of millions' in delays to HS2 after local NIMBYs blocked a minor upgrade. I went to see that the fuss was about.

The reason the conservative intelligentsia has spent decades pretending that societal shifts in cultural attitudes are the same as state coercion is to justify the use of state coercion against the elements of society they disapprove of.
Here's one of the many clarifying passages in the White House (notionally GSA) letter. It demands Harvard set up a system of political commissars who will enforce hiring and admissions set asides for MAGA luminaries and high school red hats.

This should be a much, much bigger story.

And once again I tell you:

Their singular mission is to decimate everyone but them.

I really can’t get over that all this, the threatening to invade Canada, the torturing of that German guy with a green card, the soon to happen deaths of millions of people from the dismantling of USAID, is a response to the absolute dipshit question “has wokeness gone too far?”

The straight-up Deutsche Volk supremacism here aside, Vance, Matt Taibbi, etc want us to simultaneously believe that European countries are totalitarian police states when it comes to speech and a bunch of hippie communes with no effective borders when it comes to immigration.
"Europe is on the brink of civilizational suicide," US Vice President Vance told Fox News. "Countries don’t control borders, restrict free speech. If Germany takes in millions more incompatible migrants, it’ll destroy itself. America can’t save it."

This is Marco Rubio explaining how the USA promised to defend Ukraine forever if they got rid of their nuclear arsenal left after the Soviet Union fell.

This is why lil marco was sinking into the couch. He was hoping we wouldn’t find it…so don’t RT right now this very second.

Vance is completely wrong here. US military sales to Ukraine served as a catalyst to rebuild our production capacity for our own potential military needs. I bet you'll never hear him say the same thing about US missiles fired to defend Israel, though that did deplete short-term stocks.

I keep thinking about this fantastic doc about Berlin in 1933. It's just actors reading out excerpts from berliners' diaries over old footage, but I found it incredibly powerful.

One thing that really stuck with me is how completely unprepared everyone is.
