this tawdry Olivia Nuzzi stuff highlights why I’m turning into a small-c conservative with regards to “it is unseemly and shameful for people in positions of power and influence to subject the public to their messy-ass sex nonsense on a constant basis”

Aside from the fact that Harvard should obviously fire Summers and he should not be around young people, imagine hearing your professor say this and then just carrying on with class.

This Day in Labor History: November 19, 1915. Utah executed IWW organizer Joe Hill for a murder he almost certainly did not commit. But he was an Wobbly and dispensable to society, especially in Utah, a starkly conservative western state outraged by the sheer existence of these radicals!!!

More than one thing can be true. They were never going to get healthcare back, not now. But they left money on the table and the public does by quite a lot blame them. Epstein had been handled well so far but it had to happen sometime.
i think ppl who thought the Ds were making a mistake by reopening the government - myself included - probably need to take the L at this point.

We are at a point where state and local police are repeatedly investigating federal law enforcement for systemically illegal behavior.

To the point that even CBS News has to note that pretty high up in the article.

A truly bad sign, at least in the short run (hoping prompts real change in future).

Six hundred too many.
New: Reuters has tallied job losses, suspensions and investigations stemming from the reaction to Charlie Kirk's Sept. 10 assassination. Its findings: More than 600 Americans have been punished, and the figure is likely to be an under-count.

Let’s see if the “personal liberties and free markets” editorial board of the Washington Post will actually take Trump to task over his comments excusing the murder of one its own columnists.

Given that they’ve purged me and all their opinion writers who actually care about human rights.

it would be nice if people actually internalized that the police are under no obligation to help anyone, as the supreme court stated

By the way, this is a big reason that feminists and other survivor advocates call for removing perpetrators from campus.

It isn’t about punishing them. It’s about protecting the integrity of the institution as a whole. A perpetrator left in a position of power is a dangerous thing.

And once they’re in their positions of power, they get to serve as gatekeepers for university policies and procedures around sexual violence and gender discrimination.

Overwhelmingly, they use that power to protect perpetrators and other patriarchal traditions of the campus.

If you haven’t worked for a university, you might not know that one of the primary ways universities manage sexually violent faculty is promoting them away from students and into power.

It isn’t a coincidence. It’s the system working as designed.

Out of the three colleges I’ve attended, two had a president step down because of sexual misconduct during the time I was connected to campus.

Larry Summers is another reminder that part of why universities respond so badly to sexual violence is because there are powerful perpetrators within them.

I try to avoid "real organizers vs. fake/keyboard organizers" framings for the most part but one thing you learn quickly from organizing is how difficult it is to get people to do anything at all, how much you're competing against sociologically. people are overworked and tired
