Just another tech dude. I like old mainframes (OS/390, MVS, IMS, and COBOL), UNIX, anything from DEC, and other old enterprise relics.

Like the other site though, this page will mostly be ACAB, trans rights are human rights, and ☭
Life better not be a simulation because I sure as hell don't want to wake up and deal with this BS a second time

Printers can smell fear. They can smell uncertainty. They can smell weakness. When only the bombed out ruins of humanity remain printers will be there like cockroaches waiting for their next victims to evolve or descend from the heavens so they may inflict pain.
all discourse aside, there is one machine with consciousness. it's printers. they are alive and conscious and they hate you and they'd take your arm clean off if you let them. never trust a printer.

California's last nuclear power plant was supposed to be shut down. But now it's on the verge of a 20-year extension, thanks to the state's mounting power needs.

Here's an inside look at Diablo Canyon amid its bid for relicensing (free gift link): www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...
California’s Last Nuclear Plant Is Poised to Stave Off Extinction

Debian Linux was officially founded by Ian Murdock on August 16, 1993. That's 32 years of stable, free, and opensource computing. From a single kernel, it has grown to parent some of the most popular OSes in the world. Happy 32nd birthday to the beloved mother of all distros! 🥰 🍰

this dc situation looks pretty horrible. i wish i had more to say except that autocracy is always mundane and petty and vicious and encourages you to look away and be safe. and you can live quite normally under it until you're a direct target

Every reputable expert I know considers mRNA vaccine technology to be one of the most revolutionary advances in medicine in our lifetimes. Its inventors won the Nobel Prize in 2023. Shutting it down now is pointless self-harm to humanity.
Release from HHS: HHS will wind down its development of the mRNA vaccine development activities under the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA).

the NTSB is about to be so fucking busy
The FAA will now let commercial drones fly beyond the operator’s line of sight.

The move will "unleash American drone dominance," Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said.

As a result, Duffy said, " You may get a Starbucks cup of coffee from a drone."

Article 1, Section 9 & 10 have been removed from the official Govt website on the US Constitution. Among numerous points:
•Section 9 forbids suspending The Privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus
•Section 10 forbids ex post facto laws

This better be a joke. Ignoring these is full blow dictatorship

We ran a randomized controlled trial to see how much AI coding tools speed up experienced open-source developers.

The results surprised us: Developers thought they were 20% faster with AI tools, but they were actually 19% slower when they had access to AI than when they didn't.
