Whenever I see Bessent I think “Gary Oldman is a great actor, but this bit he’s doing is just stupid, not funny”
Bessent shamelessly lies: "Inflation came down in April for the first time in four years under President Trump...Walmart came out yesterday and said the Thanksgiving meal is 25% less." (Inflation fell steadily in the last two years of the Biden administration and Walmart is making the meals smaller)

Point blank range means “a distance at which one can fire horizontally (i.e. not compensating for gravity) and still hit the desired target.” Willing to bet the sandwich had positive vertical velocity when it was thrown, so this description is bullshit. Along with the rest of the case.
NEW: Jury selection begins in the trial of sandwich guy today. The prosecutors are accusing him of "throwing a meat sandwich" at "point-blank range."

Sean Dunn went viral this summer for throwing a salami sub at a Customs and Border Protection agent.

BREAKING: economist discovers “second shift,” a concept coined by sociologists almost 50 years ago; gives it new, stupider, and less explicitly labor-oriented name

I honestly think the Tolkien estate should be suing Palantir, Anduril and this latest company for defamation and brand damage
A US tech bro corp in the US has decided the night sky should go away. They've made that decision for everyone on Earth.

Naturally they've named the first searing orbital array (many times brighter than the moon) after Eärendil, the light bearer, from Tolkien's work

Company's plan to launch 4,000 space mirrors alarms scientists
Reflect Orbital says their light-on-demand idea has generated significant interest from commercial and government customers.

Wouldn’t be surprised if these were Midjourney renderings
Oh look, there are renderings. The Versailles jokes make themselves. Also, this architecture firm should be laughed out of existence.

I used to get so many emails. And letters. The letters crammed with absolutely frothing content, in tiny hand on multiple pages, both sides. And then added to in all four margins. And then added to on the envelope in a halo around the address. In green ink.
Think about how for decades, one of the ingredients of a crackpot was: retired engineer.

Retired engineers, for *generations* have been a fertile ground for crackpot theories in everything.

They get that golden watch and bam, incoherent manifesto about quantum archeology inbound.

Larry Ellison envisions a surveillance state in which techbros rule. '“Citizens will be on their best behavior, because we’re constantly recording and reporting everything that is going on,” Ellison said in an hour-long Q&A during Oracle’s Financial Analyst Meeting last week.'

At last. The fact it takes two weeks of triangulation by a horde of consultants to get to this simple statement is worrying.

This inner tension of “we are strong and winning” and “we’re just one step from crushing defeat” is an essential psychological component of fascism. You can see it at play repeatedly in Nazi Germany etc
a question I often find myself asking these days: "are these the moves of a movement that feels that it's winning or one desperately afraid that it's about to lose everything?"
what we’ve seen from the right is the most insane case of cancel culture i’ve ever witnessed. the left has never even done close to a fraction of a fraction of what they want to do now

Top is the outside of their trailer, bottom is a scene immediately after on the inside of the same trailer.
