I do want to note Mamdani's transition specifically calling attention to like, people applying for city jobs and how many CVs they got in the mail, etc, because when was the last time you saw a politician actually talk about expanding state capacity other than hiring more cops?

Agree with this.

About to publish something on the airplane mess. But this too is ON THE REPUBS. It is not a reason to cave. Dems, it is a time to keep standing up.
Opening the government with no concessions from GOP merely to alleviate airline cancellations - when Congress has been dragging its feet for years on chronic FAA staffing issues - is a lame ass choice.

Also, doing it while the House refuses to work is appalling.

We need this to penetrate public consciousness.

Sooner or later they come hat in hand to govt. They will tell SNAP recipients to “get a job.” To billionaires peddling an idea no one needs, they open the coffers filled with our tax dollars.

I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this video.

I don’t know how we’ve gotten to the point where men in full balaclavas can abduct daycare teachers while they’re watching children.

But I do know that this isn’t sustainable. Abolish ICE. There is no way to reform this.

The views of the average pro-Palestinian student broadly match what the academic literature says, what international courts say, what the relavant UN officials & orgs say and what the relevant NGOs say. It is views of Clinton and her peers in Western capitals which are largely divorced from reality.
What Hillary is saying here is a conspiracy theory and not even a tame, silly one, but a whopper. A more balefully consequential and widespread one than e.g. Trump complaining that the media lied about his crowds being big.

This is a masterclass in repeating carefully workshopped robotic talking points that miss the forest for the trees and are irrelevant to the question at hand: Trump chose to build a ballroom instead of funding programs that would feed those kids.
GOV. WHITMER: “.. no one is worried about building a ballroom in Washington, D.C. What they want is to make sure that they can feed their kids next week.” Most Americans are “never going to step foot in a ballroom over the course of their lifetime.”

so many of the worst decisions dems have made in the past decade haven’t been bad strategic thinking because they’re not even strategic as such; it’s just pure reactionary impulse, that is then backfilled with some laughable “strategic” rationalization. tiktok sale is a great example.
This makes some good points on the silliness of thinking the forced sale TikTok to an American oligarch was consistent with either liberal principles or Dem partisan interests. But it ignores the real reason for it: fear that young people might hear critical voices on Gaza. slate.com/technology/2...
