Oh, and this was a big one on the old site: All the ways that Popeye changed video games (mostly but not limited to Mario stuff). He may have (indirectly) inspired Mario's whole look, actually.

Little Nemo in Slumberland by Winsor McCay from December 31, 1905.
In this Sunday installment, Father Time awakens Nemo and flies him away to a giant wall covered in years (1902, 1903, 1904, etc, going ahead through the century.) He shows Nemo that if he touches a number he will jump ahead in age, and we Nemo as a 25 year old man and then as a middle-aged man. He gets scared so Father Time returns him to childhood. But as Time walks away, Nemo touches more numbers and becomes a very, very old man. Almost blind, he wonders around looking for Father Time until he wakes up in his mother's arms, shouting that he had become an old man. She assures him he was only dreaming.

Would imagine I’m in the minority here, but the only parts of the new Stranger Things that work for me are the parts with Holly. Which is wild because I’d assume I’d hate a “new” character stealing focus, but there’s a brightness to Holly’s storyline that’s missing from the grimdark main plot.

In Zelda 2, a woman appears in each town, beckoning Link into her home. They disappear inside and Link's health begins to refill.

One reddit user recently asked if this scene was *intentionally* suggestive. While that seems very unlikely, I thought I'd look into it.

Wait, are the koopa supposed to be kappa? I was curious and I did find someone's blog which is arguing this isn't the case and that they weren't even called koopas in the original Japanese.
