As always, @chrisgrey.bsky.social explains much better than I could why Labour's latest Home Office anti-immigration policy is "dismal", immoral & just plain "stupid".
Everything about the current 'debate' around this is dismal, not just morally but because it is so stupid. For example:

It conflates asylum-seeking and illegal immigration (and sometimes with migration generally)

It shows no understanding of why there is AS

She also did this from 3rd place, (worth noting for 28/29), and would go on in 2024 to add an extra 10,000 to that majority.
#OTD 2021: Helen Morgan wins the North Shropshire by-election for the Liberal Democrats. She won a majority of 5,925 on a swing of 34.2%, the 8th largest swing in UK by-election history. She was also the first non-Conservative elected for the constituency since 1904.

If you tell refugees that they will never be able to put down roots, how the hell do you expect them to integrate?
This is as bad as anything proposed by Reform.

Leaving refugees in permanent limbo and unable to build a new life in the UK would be a complete abdication of our humanitarian responsibilities

UK set to limit refugees to temporary stays
Shabana Mahmood is expected to say the era of permanent protection for refugees is over, in major changes to the UK's asylum and immigration system.

If we accept someone is a genuine refugee and they build a life here, perhaps have children born here, what is the advantage to us of expelling them once we’ve persuaded ourselves that their country of origin is safe?

The Liberal Democrats will keep defending the BBC against those who want to destroy it, both from the inside and outside.

💰 To fund this, we're calling for a windfall tax on big banks, which would raise twice as much as the policies would cost.

🍺 This two-pronged approach would revitalise our high streets, give hard-working people a much-needed boost, and save the 'Friday night treat', a much-loved British tradition.
