Great find by @saloplarus.bsky.social of Shropshire's first Black Kite at Wood Lane. It hung around the tip there late morning, often chased by 2CY Red Kites and Corvids. #shropshirebirding #ukwildlife 🪶
Black Kite carrying food item or something - it kept it for ages but did eventually drop it 5 Red Kites, all 2CY in primary moult often gave it a lot of grief Black Kite chased by 2CY Red Kite uppersides. Always against the pale sky so hard to expose the shots Crow mobbing the Black Kite at Wood Lane

A bimble around the neighbourhood for the Monday lunchtime cycle ride, as I checked out a few sites for the Shropshire rookeries survey. The return of more unsettled weather felt strangely comforting, and lovely to hear my first Whitethroat of the spring @jannerbirder.bsky.social

Butler's Pool, near Albrighton, is always good for catching a bit of afternoon sun 🌞 St Mary Magdalene parish church, Hadnall, viewed from Church Lane... more about that thoroughfare in the next one! Church Lane connects Hadnall with the nearby hamlet of Haston - and is seen here on the approach to the railway bridge over the Shrewsbury-Crewe line. My first visit in many years, I came here to look for what I discovered was a redundant rookery but was delighted to discover the whole lane has been resurfaced (it used to resemble the surface of the Moon) 🎉 Needless to say, I plan to return again soon. An aside: the local farmer at Haston once held a music festival in one of his fields. Can you guess what it was called? Hastonbury!! 🙃 A fab display of bluebells in woodland on the edge of the old Hardwick estate, near Hadnall.

E. A. Wallis Budge's work describing the life of Mike has been viewed as the zenith of such biographical writing.

Good numbers of Slender Groundhoppers yesterday in Melverley at the marshy edge of a pond. First one swept by @lancefly.bsky.social then I saw another 10 or so, including what looks like a rather fat ie gravid female. Would be a little early, though Apr/May is the breeding season. #ukorthoptera
Slender Groundhopper swept by Nigel Jones. This looks like a gravid female. The widely-spaced eyes do confirm that she is a girl, anyway.
