Rob Hirst has had a massive impact on Australian culture. He was the engine driving one of the greatest live bands of all time. RIP, dear Rob. You are irreplaceable, one of a kind, and myself, my family, and all the rest of this great country will miss you so much.

Finally getting to see Rob pounding the kit at Hammersmith Apollo in 2017 and, again, in Manchester in 2019 was one of the greatest thrills of my musical life. A sublime musician, songwriter and - most importantly - compassionate human being. Rest In Peace, Legend.

An improved display that, while by no means convincing (for we tried our best to gift ten-man Harrogate a late equaliser), delivered the 3 points we badly needed. A lively Ewan Morgan was the pick of our three January signings (who all contributed), and a great strike from TP to win it 🚀

Lunchtime at Cottage Pool

Cottage Pool is a small, erm, pool lying roughly equidistant of Forton Heath and Little Ness in north Shropshire, close to the hamlet of Nib/Nibb/Nibs Heath (you can take your pick from the local signposts!). It's one of a number of small pools in the area, and plays host to a variety of birdlife. Tufted Duck, Shoveler and, of course, Mallard are regulars here, alongside numerous coot and moorhen. Oystercatcher can also be viewed on the shoreline in spring, and Buzzard and Raven regularly wheel overhead, alongside the large flocks of Jackdaw and Greylag that frequent the adjoining pasture. It's a lovely spot, with great views of the Cambrian Range and south Shropshire Hills!

Today, we're at the junction of Crescent Lane and Town Walls in the centre of Shrewsbury on a sunny mid-December day. A black Glasdon grit bin sits on the pavement in front of a red brick wall, upon which a nearby streetlight is casting its distinctive shadow. An electricity pole, replete with cascading wires, and a bare tree can be seen in the background as the road winds its way down to the River Severn and the Quarry Park.

Today, we're in the heart of medieval Wellington (one of Shropshire's oldest towns) on Walker Street, which takes its name from the practice of 'fulling' - literally, walking on urine-soaked woollen cloth to remove impurities and make the material more compact. It wasn't the only ancient trade practiced here, however, and the wall mural hanging from the side of Edgbaston House depicts a medieval tradesman busily engaged in the art of horn coring. When Larkin Way was redeveloped, back in the noughties, an archaeological survey revealed the presence of many deer antlers here (probably from the nearby Royal Forest centred on The Wrekin), pointing to the presence of the trade on this former burgage plot. Standing next to the medieval horn corer is Sir John Charlton, bearing the arms of his family - former Lords of the Manor, whose traditional seat of Apley Castle was located just north of the town. He became a powerful Marcher Lord, served as Chamberlain to Edward II, Governor of Ireland, and also married Hawys the daughter of the last Prince of Powys - with whom he moved from his seat of Charlton Castle (the ruins of which lie a couple of miles west of Wellington) to Powys Castle, near Welshpool; a remodelled version of the former. Dating from the 1400s, Edgbaston House is reckoned to be the oldest in Wellington, while opposite the building that now forms part of the southern entrance to Wellington Market originally served as the town's fire station. The modern building next to it, currently a TSB bank, stands on the site of a Debtors Gaol, which survived here until around 1840. Phew!

A yellow Slingsby 200L grit bin stands in the shadow of Coalbrookdale Viaduct on a grey day, providing a perfect fusion of industrial heritage and modern road safety technology in the world cradle of Industry. Coalbrookdale viaduct once carried trains between Wellington and Craven Arms (via Much Wenlock). The line was opened in stages between 1854-67 and closed to passengers in stages in 1951 and 1962. However, part of the formation was retained for the purpose of carrying coal traffic to and from the now defunct Ironbridge Power Station. Network Rail has plans to reopen the line as a passenger branch by the 2040s, so trains may yet be seen on the viaduct once again.

A dreadful game of football and an even worse performance from our beleaguered, undermanned squad, whose confidence is clearly at rock bottom. Hard to see how Michael Appleton comes back from this, but - IMHO - the responsibility for our unenviable position lies firmly with the chairman.

I enjoyed a festive treat at the Gorge Film Club in Coalbrookdale today in the form of the Holdovers. I'll admit, this one passed me by on release (although it was very successful) but that's my loss because this is a modern Christmas classic. Funny, poignant and full of pathos ✅
