This week, we're on Howard Street in Shrewsbury - home to the town's Royal Mail sorting office. Positioned at the entrance to the building we find a faded yellow Glasdon grit bin standing in front of wall, which is replete with a variety of work-related signage.

The Cliffe is an area of common land in the Nesscliffe Hills, comprising heather heathland, woodland and former quarry workings. I'm not saying it's my favourite place in Shropshire but it's in the top one!

St John the Baptist parish church, Whittington

#Shropshire 💒
A church has existed here in Whittington since the mid-twelfth century but the current building dates from 1804. The tower is slightly older and was rebuilt after a storm in 1747, when the previous wooden spire was badly damaged.

Whittington Castle in the autumnal gloom this afternoon (it's got a very nice cafe, you know ☕).

Whittington Castle is equidistant between Ellesmere and Oswestry in north Shropshire. The site was first occupied during the Iron Age, over 2000 years ago, when a defended farmstead stood here. Later, the Normans remodelled as a fort, before it was rebuilt in stone around 1220. Around a century later, it was converted once again - this time into a palatial home with a medieval pleasure garden (one of only a very few known to have existed).

This week we're in Back Lane car park, Much Wenlock (a short-stay car park, with twelve spaces) looking towards the town's historic High Street. In our line of vision we see a yellow Kingspan Titan 400 grit bin surrounded by autumn leaves from a nearby tree (also pictured) and, just beyond a short walk, a red and black Glasdon Fido 25 dog waste bin. Completing this dazzling autumnal picture of civic pride writ large, a row of whitewashed stone cottages stand on the opposite side of the High Street.

The north county church alighted in #Knockin this afternoon at the beautiful Norman church of St Mary's, which dates from 1182. Despite being gutted by fire in the late 18th century it retains many original features and some striking stained glass. A visit is highly recommended!

The Norman church of St Mary's Knockin was constructed between 1182 and 1195 by Ralph Le Strange and began life as a chapel to the adjacent castle (of which only a tree-covered mound survives). Despite being gutted by fire in 1767, the church retains many original features including a font, the Norman arches of the disappeared north transcept and what is said to be the best priests door in the county... which is now blocked-up!

While the town is lauded for numerous examples of half-timbered Elizabethan architecture, I don't think nearly enough attention is lavished on this 1960s-era Brutalist, multi-storey masterpiece!

Forty years ago, after a resolute, successful campaign get their land, traditional owners at Uluru showed incredible generosity by leasing the land to all Australians enabling the creation of Uluru/Kata Tjuṯa National Park. Our shows out there were amongst the most meaningful ever.
