Panorama on The Long Mynd, Shropshire, England.

The name Long Mynd means "long mountain", the second element being Brittonic in origin.

Brittonic languages are thought to have been spoken in Britain from around the 6th century BCE to the 6th century CE.

I love church kneelers and always look for them when I go churchcrawling. I think they are such a wonderful piece of folk art. I was particularly happy to see this delightful trio of guinea pigs in Alberbury church. 💚

One of the things that's most exciting about writing my book about The Devil in Shropshire is the complexity of these stories. He is more than a stock character. He is a powerful conduit for the fears and attitudes of a community. Through these tales, we connect to our past.

Church Preen Church is Norman in origin and was founded by Cluniac monks. Its ancient yew, dating to around 457 AD, was once described as being one of England's noblest. Yew trees symbolize death, rebirth, and protection. In Shropshire, they had healing properties and were guardians.
