The remains of Moreton Corbet Castle are said to be haunted by more than mere spirits. A curse lies upon the building, ensuring that it would never be lived in by the descendants of its original owner, Sir Vincent Corbet, and instead it shall remain a ruin.

I've spoken alot about my grandad, but I've rarely discussed his battle with Dementia.

He is my motivation for signing up for the 50 miles in January challenge. I will be sharing folklore along the way. Please share or donate if you are able. Thank you!

A slow, 5 mile meander today drenched in birdsong. I'm nearly at 30 miles of my 50 and I am really proud of my body and of myself. Long Covid has made things difficult, but I am still capable. Thank you for all the support so far, it means the world to me 💚

Shropshire Folklore states that on New Years Day, one must cut a Withy Stick (usually from the Willow Tree) and immediately place it in your pocket to ensure good luck for the whole year.

However, if the Withy Stick falls to the ground, the charm will be broken. ✨️

My latest blog post discusses the complex story of Emma Davies, who was at the centre of 'The Shropshire Hoax' in 1883. Though not a traditional ghost story, I believe her story is important.

Another 6.3 miles completed today, from Coalport to Bower Yard Lime Kiln (in Ironbridge) via the old railway line. The Lime kilns are some of the best preserved monuments to Shropshire's industrial heritage.

Thank you for all of the kind words and support! X

In Shropshire, Dec 28 was feared as ‘Cross Day’, a time of misfortune and bad luck where no new tasks should be started. It coincides with Childermas, remembering Herod’s massacre of the Holy Innocents. This blend of folklore and Faith demonstrates the influence of both on daily life.
