there is always benefit of seeing where precisely we are, but there's a drawback in that precision in that you lose where it is we're going

"missing the forest through the trees" is an apt description for this

most of a forest is NOT trees, but interstice of dirt, grass, and shrubs, and yet...

Plano is relatively easy to navigate since it’s just a mile stroad grid with stupid subdivisions inside the squares, what you’re describing is much worse, it’s McKinneyification

The most ascendant version of America is, unfortunately, in Dallas. I went there to see our future.

in hindsight, my biggest and only *real* criticism of The Outer Worlds 2 is that they clearly designed it for multiple playthroughs, but there's so much they dangle and leave available to you in your (first) run, that a full playthru easily takes 60+ hours

rampant "catch and kill" activities in journalism are a sign that it is more lucrative and socially rewarding to kill stories for rich people than it is to report them

I hear this sentiment a lot but the polls that came out in the days after the debate showed Biden losing 1% of support from his pre-debate polls. It was the weeks of fallout afterwards that actually eroded Biden's polling to the point he had to drop bsky.app/profile/dust...
People watching the debate was more damaging than whatever Nuzzi wrote.

counterpoint to this as a "dystopian fantasy"

one thing that has made the right a strong opponent in the face of grotesque inequality and power consolidation is a shared fake reality

they can all lean on the same lying talking points laundered to them by Fox and the rwing infosystems
Trump supporters are also making shitty AI videos of Trump arresting Mamdani in the Oval Office.

They don't know how to process what just happened in real life, so they're making the version they prefer with AI.

Just remembering how one of the most important and widely read and dropped-with-maximally-damaging-timing "Biden is old and senile" pieces was reported by Nuzzi. It makes you think!
well, I read it, and the salient, non-gross part is Lizza alleging, midsentence and without elaboration, that Nuzzi ran numerous “catch-and-kill operations” on RFK’s behalf, which would give her a role in both his appointment and the untold preventable deaths he has abetted in office. Cool.

I would absolutely LOVE to see data indicating if/how much public support for nuclear power is correlated to enjoyment if Sci-Fi media
they're obsessed with building the marvels they saw growing up (rocket ships, nuclear reactors, supersonic jets) that we built *as a society*

but refuse to spend the money and effort necessary to build them as marvelously

AND while they're busy dividing that society for their own selfish ends
Honestly I'm still stuck on the bit where the biggest companies in the stock market rn are extremely desperate for cheap electricity and Sam Altman thinks building his own nuclear reactors is the best way to provide that? Has he heard of the last nuclear buildout the US attempted, or of solar cells?

all the biggest companies in the stock market right now are extremely desperate for cheap electricity and as a result are some of the biggest investors in green energy on the planet

Sam Altman wants to build his own nuclear reactors for fuck's sake
