Net zero is one of the many areas where commentators are out-of-touch with public opinion in Britain. There is still broad support for cutting carbon emissions - except from among Reform supporters, who are the outliers.
🧵/ How far does the public support net zero?

Support: 60%
Oppose: 25%

Net support by party
Green: +81
Lib Dem: +67
Lab: +64
Con: +11
Reform: -44

Quick thread on the BBC and the political and societal significance of recent developments:

One of the main reasons the UK has historically been so much less polarised than the US, is that Britain has a shared source of information, consumed and trusted by most people regardless of their politics.

I've always dreamed of Radiohead writing songs about me, ironically or otherwise.
Further evidence of my complete decline as a human being: batch cooking makes me very happy. Control over calories and expenditure. I have become the kind of person Radiohead used to write ironic songs about.

The MET is a disgrace and needs to be scrapped. A home for racists, sexists, homophobes, domestic abusers and rapists. I'd genuinely feel safer in a windowless room with reform voters.
Nothing here isn't already widely known. The reality is the Met is serially incapable of acting in anything other than a token way to findings of numerous critical reviews, responding instead with platitudes and then waiting out any short term negative publicity www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...

But read and lead don't rhyme, and neither do read and lead.

Used these with Yr13 before 2D kinematics and it was great to see the students applying their SUVAT equations in context. We went on to use the highway code stopping distances to compare 80 to 70, and 40 to 30.

Will use again, thank you to @deegs23.bsky.social for sharing.

Protest is fundamental to our democracy - we rightly celebrate people like Nelson Mandela who changed the world through protest

But this govt is clamping down on our protest rights with increasingly authoritarian laws

Thanks @greenpeaceuk.bsky.social for making this point so powerfully

I'm trying to fly less. But it turns out I didn't have a clue and who flies and how much. Fewer than 25% of people fly more than once a year. 50% of people don't fly each year.

The only thing better than British buses? Free travel on British buses! With New York heading towards free bus travel under their new mayor, can York hope for the same?
Backing British Buses 🚌 🇬🇧 Made right here in Scarborough!

Today I attended the Bus Manufacturing Roundtable, hosted by Heidi Alexander & Simon Lightwood, who are both pressing to expedite new bus orders & back British manufacturing at bus builders like Alexander Dennis in Eastfield, Scarborough.

November 1965. Sixty years ago. An official White House report on the dangers of climate change.

Nineteen sixty-five.
Hard to believe these days, but there was once a time when the US government led the debate on how to combat climate change and improve environmental quality.
60 yrs ago today (Nov 5, 1965), the 1st US government report to warn about climate change was published.
"Restoring the Quality of Our Environment" included warning of C02 build-up and sea-level rise/melting ice-caps.

That's Elon Musk who has repeatedly called for civil war in the UK.

As of typing this - all of the major politicians and platforms maintain a presence on X and it is time for them all to leave.

To be fair, they’re losing MPs at a much faster rate.
One in twenty Reform councillors elected in May 2025 has left by the Autumn
- half expelled/suspended
- a quarter resigned from council
- some defected

An "unusual rate" of attrition in 6 months, says Tony Travers

Reform Is Losing Councillors Elected In May At An 'Unusual' Rate
Reform UK has lost more than 5 per cent of the councillors it had elected six months ago, an analysis by PoliticsHome has found.

Unbelievably tragic piece about all the crossing guards injured or killed on the job in the US.

One school district in South Carolina has had 4(!) crossing guards hit or killed on the job.

These are people trying to fix the problems caused caused by traffic engineers, and are dying doing it.
