For your #Noirvember pleasure, here are ten more international, ie, non-American, noirs that you might want to catch up with. Another past post from my Substack, it’s free to read at the link below.

Hey Belfast - tomorrow I will be conducting a Q&A with Ben Wheatley after the Irish premiere of his ramshackle, handmade, brain-twisting, zero-budget new movie BULK.
Ben may also have copies of the fanzine he created about BULK if you're lucky.

Jim Gavin election posters all around Ireland like Easter Island stone heads. Who put them there? Nobody knows. What is their purpose? Perhaps astral guides for interstellar observers, perhaps a crude calendar by which the olden times people kept track of the seasons & feastdays. We can only guess.

I wrote an article about what we gain when we make art, and what we lose when we use AI to make it.

What you lose when you use AI to make art
The act of creating something is often far more valuable than the finished product — why would we hand those benefits over to AI companies?

People say "some of Ben Wheatley's movies are bad" and I say "he's out there making movies like crazy, having fun and learning and taking chances, what have you done recently"
When every other filmmaker in the UK is waiting years with their script 'in development' (some BFI/BBC boffin wants to give you money but has 20 reasons they mysteriously can't) Ben Wheatley is here going "nah fuck this I'm making a film"

The fact that the term "Death Squads" is not yet in use in relation to MAGA's strategic goals for much of the Western Hemisphere is a testament to how so many American analysts and journalists still can't get their heads around what is unfolding right in front of them in Washington
