The Rob Reiner news feels like a violation. An awful, miserable end for a such a warm personable filmmaker who had one of the greatest runs of any. Him and his poor wife, right before Christmas. Their poor family.

Slight spoilers for Pluribus, E6, but the decision to make Carol's isolation less an accident, and tie it to her actions is a brilliant wrinkle. It elevates the whole show past its tropes.

It's such a miserable state of the industry that Warner Brothers is going to end up being consolidated with a rival. Be it Ellison's Magamount, Netflix or Comcast which owns Universal, it's all bad options. Well done, Zaslav.

A question on my mind when watching Pluribus is one I don't think the show needs to spend time on, but I find fascinating: if a writer lived in a world where there were no more readers, would they still write?

Anybody who had a vision to bring American levels of political, cultural and social polarisation to Britain - whether their motive was clicks or cash, ideology, boredom or anything else - would make it their top strategic priority to abolish the BBC, or to damage and diminish it at the very least

In an endless churning sea of slick, competent TV and polished, expensive cinema, Pluribus is the first thing in a long, long time that left me grinning because I felt something I've not in forever — inspired.
