Military documents confirm that the LA operation today was a “show of presence” intended to send a message to LA residents about the power of the federal government.
After staging with armed soldiers and Border Patrol agents on horse, they packed up and left after a short walk.

"Freedom of maneuver" is a military term designed to distinguish between pacified and hostile territory in an occupation setting, in case that helps inform you of how the federal government views American cities.
OH MY FUCKING GOD
First of all, why trust Thune at all? Second, WHO THE FUCK CARES IF THERE'S A VOTE THAT WILL FAIL AND NEVER GET TAKEN UP BY THE HOUSE EVEN IF IT DOES? SOMEONE FUCKING ASK DURBIN HOW HE EXPECTS THIS VOTE TO GO

Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

There's also some irony in the fact that Gen X continues to vote MAGA and MAGA just absolutely reamed Gen X on health care costs. People who are about to hit Medicare eligibility but not quite there? That 55-64 bracket? Absolutely fucked with no recompense.

Even if this is what you believe, saying it like this is god-awful. You can even make a defensible case of surrendering! You can say "Trump and the Republicans are willing to inflict endless cruelty on Americans, and at this point we felt like we could not longer carry on." I mean...defensible?

This may or may not be the case but the way to make this not happen was for Schumer not to sell us out for an attack ad
This is the opposite of what we should be doing. If we elect Platner, he will be the albatross on the party. You can’t say that we should elect him or that we will elect him just because of what 10 Democrats in the Senate did from other states.
Tô bring things full circle to our endless hell. Before yesterday, I would have assumed Janet Mills would win the primary in Maine. Now I think Platner will because the primary is now a referendum on Chuck Schumer and being Schumer's chosen candidate is an electoral death sentence.

This is especially relevant now but the main reason for this is that Dem leaders don't seem to understand that the alternative for the Dem base isn't the GOP, it's the couch, and when Schumer makes decisions like he did, the couch seems very appealing
American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

I would also posit that the people selling us out in November 2025 for an attack ad for November 2026 have no business running Dem campaigns for Senate either because they have zero clue how the modern electorate makes up its mind

Here's how you know Chuck Schumer sold us out for a 2026 attack ad talking point:
They sold us out for a 2026 attack ad and none of the people who voted for it will even be on the ballot.
So yeah. That's a DSCC leadership plot using unaccountable Senators as the cudgel.

Reporter: What do you say to your colleagues who say this isn't a fight, this is a capitulation?
Shaheen: We have a guaranteed vote by a guaranteed date…
Reporter: There is no guarantee that this will become law.
Shaheen: There was never a guarantee that it would be become law.

If Schumer cannot control his caucus then he should be repaced
Schumer: "I must vote no. I can not, in good faith, support this CR. ... Make no mistake about it, the American people know who is inflicting this pain on them."
He stops short of urging his colleagues to vote "no."

The Dems are on the right side of things during the shutdown, but the messaging has been lousy!
Its simple & powerful, if put clearly-
“Republicans have taken American families food hostage in order to pressure Dems to let the President gut their healthcare. This is not an acceptable choice!”

I don't think Dems are under any illusion that Republicans will vote for ACA subsidies. They know they won't, and some of them are okay with that outcome because they want to make ads with it.

i don’t think the axios reporting is entirely off base if you have house members out here soft launching an abolish-the-senate position lmfao
I don't know what the Senate is going to do. But if they do in fact fold in exchange for nothing, they will be living up to past performance. To expect the Senate to carry out the will of the American people is to misunderstand why it was created in the first place.

The deal is that Republicans will vote against something they have already voted against.
From what I have seen so far this does not seem like a good deal:
