this might be a stupid question but why is a court defining what is and isn't a lesbian? like, when does that come up in a legal context?
![Perhaps most concerningly, the Supreme Court adopts extremely transphobic rhetoric concerning transfeminine lesbians.
The Court concludes that a lesbian “must be a [AFAB] female who is sexually oriented towards (or attracted to) [AFAB] females”. The Court concludes that female here cannot include trans women, as the “concept of sexual orientation” would be “rendered meaningless”, and in its opinion, wrongly affect the composition of lesbians as a group.
The Court claims this would lead to an “inevitable loss of autonomy and dignity for lesbians”. It points to evidence from gender-critical groups like the LGB Alliance and The Lesbian Project to make this argument. They claim the inclusion of trans women is having a ‘chilling effect on lesbians’ to associate in lesbian-only spaces. It should go without saying at this point, but be careful what you post on social media, especially if you live somewhere like Florida.
A trans woman on tiktok posted about getting her gender marker changed on her Florida drivers license. Florida investigated her over it, canceled her license, and then leaked the story to libs of tiktok to announce it publicly to humiliate her.

my not-unprofessional opinion is this trans youth care ban would not be before the Supreme Court at all if not for Alliance Defending Freedom (aka the people who brought you Dobbs) and would not be treated as a "tough" issue for "even liberals" if not for the New York Times
