On a sadder note, its devoted stars Alice and Ellen Kessler – The Kessler Twins – chose to die last week by joint assisted death. They were 89. RIP.

Senator Mark Kelly @SenMarkKelly When I was 22 years old, I commissioned as an Ensign in the United States Navy and swore an oath to the Constitution. I upheld that oath through flight school, multiple deployments on the USS Midway, 39 combat missions in Operation Desert Storm, test pilot school, four space shuttle flights at NASA, and every day since I retired – which I did after my wife Gabby was shot in the head while serving her constituents. In combat, I had a missile blow up next to my jet and flew through anti-aircraft fire to drop bombs on enemy targets. At NASA, I launched on a rocket, commanded the space shuttle, and was part of the recovery mission that brought home the bodies of my astronaut classmates who died on Columbia. I did all of this in service to this country that I love and has given me so much. Secretary Hegseth’s tweet is the first I heard of this. I also saw the President’s posts saying I should be arrested, hanged, and put to death. If this is meant to intimidate me and other members of Congress from doing our jobs and holding this administration accountable, it won’t work. I’ve given too much to this country to be silenced by bullies who care more about their own power than protecting the Constitution.

y'know, if tech companies weren't so fired up to call every single thing "AI" it would be a lot easier to distinguish "ML spam filter that is well-sandboxed and tuned on your emails" from "giant context and IP-eroding foundation model that makes people paranoid and unhappy"

since the "google is now training gemini on your email contents" thing keeps bumping around here: it's _not happening_. I say this not to defend google but because I know a lot of people that have broken their filtering and made their lives much more annoying from sheer misinformation.

I know anti-tech lamenting is a Bluesky core principle, but please use the same judgement you would for any other clickbait.

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t a fan of a lot of Image books when they started out.

But I’ll pay $18 just for a set of Astro City by Kurt Busiek, easily one of the best series from any company, ever.

Oh, and I liked Mage.

Space weather impacts: Aurora (northern lights). GPS. Satellites. Communications. Human space exploration. Aviation. Electric Power. The Geomagnetic Storm Impact Scale. G1 - Minor: Weak power grid fluctuations and minor impacts on satellites are possible. Migratory animals are affected at this and higher levels. Aurora is commonly visible at high latitudes. G2 - Moderate: Transformer damage is possible with long duration storms. Corrective actions to spacecraft orientation may be required; may affect orbit predictions. Aurora may be seen as low as New York and Idaho. G3 - Strong: Power system voltage corrections may be required. Satellite and LF radio navigation problems may occur. HF radio may be interrupted. Aurora may be seen as low as Illinois & Oregon. G4 - Severe: Possible widespread voltage control problems on the power grid. HF radio sporadic, satellite navigation degraded for hours, LF radio navigation issues. Aurora may be seen as low as Alabama and northern California. G5 - Extreme: Blackouts or complete collapse of power grids possible. Navigation systems may be out for hours or days. Aurora may be seen as low as Florida and southern Texas.
