I write things that explain other things for USA TODAY NETWORK Florida. I also take pictures, mostly for me. My opinions are my own and I only agree with about half of them. He/him.

New followers, hi! I’m a trending writer for the USA TODAY NETWORK in Florida, which means I try to explain what’s going on, from hurricanes to politics to pop culture to health threats. Sometimes it helps.

I’m also a photographer for local performers, a dog dad, and a thrifter on weekends.
Turns out “Make Some Noise” is the perfect show to binge when you’re sick and need entertainment that requires no thought, just enjoyment.

Laughing hurts my throat but I’m ok with that.

It’s been 18 years and it still bugs me that Stark puts his arc reactor in his chest by popping it in and turning it to the right and Obadiah Stane removes it by ALSO turning it to the right.

Welp, tests say definitely flu. But not COVID, so, fair enough.

Now I feel justified in my misery.
February 11, 2026 at 9:16 PM
I’m at that stage in the flu or whatever I have where I wake up and feel fine, temperature is only a little high, and I get optimistic.

That lasts about a half hour, I’ve found.

Saw a few halftime reaction videos pop up on Instagram, watched em, got more.

For the last couple of hours now my feed has been almost entirely reaction videos from Latin countries. Laughing, shrieking, dancing, openly gasping or crying when their country was named.

I may be a little misty.

The Lose It! app gets me.

So far the main takeaways I’ve gotten from my feed’s reaction to the Super Bowl has been:

1. Bad Bunny gave a perfect show

2. The AI ads were increasingly desperate

3. In fact, I’ve seen very few people in my feed praising ANY ads this year

4. There were at least 3 @dropout.tv regulars in ads

So, I was unaware that David Dastmalchian has an interview show in which he and a celebrity lie in matching coffins and talk about death.

He talked to @alyankovic.bsky.social recently, who gave an amazing and understated you-logy for himself.

Mostly dead, still pretty.

Just like me.

I could never be a professional photographer because I never know what to charge and when my friends are asking I keep wanting to do it for free.

Wait, did I say photographer? I meant assassin.

Well, damn. Ink, the 21-year-old bookstore cat at my local and beloved used bookstore, died yesterday.

The Family Book Shop in central Florida is asking people to donate to the New Hope Animal Shelter in memory.

Bookshop cats are the best.

Just when you start to think people can’t get any eviler…

The FDLE warned Floridians that scammers claiming to be “with AMBER Alert” are calling people asking to “preregister” their children for the statewide child abduction alert program and stream their personal info.
Florida Amber Alert calls are a dangerous scam. What to know
Florida parents are being targeted by scammers impersonating AMBER Alert officials. Here's what the FDLE says to do.

Just found out there’s a Kickstarter for an original elderly Sherlock Holmes audiobook with Holmes voiced by Tom Baker and I may have sprained my finger pledging it.

That John Leeson, the voice of “K-9,” is voicing Holmes was just a happy bonus.
SIR SHERLOCK - The Red Letter Day
The beginning of a brand-new, full-cast audio series and novellas, starring Tom Baker MBE and John Leeson as Holmes and Watson.

It’s amazing to me that Avatar had so many huge hits while having so little apparent impact on pop culture.

I rarely see shirts or tons of merch the way I do Marvel, Pirates of the Caribbean or Game of Thrones. I never hear anyone quote the movies.

If you didn’t see the movies, do they exist?
It is a little wild to me that you can write a sentence like “With Avatar 3, Cameron became the first filmmaker to direct four billion-dollar hits in a row,” and it be in an article about how avatar 3’s box office haul make it an underperformer

Welp, just broke the cold weather record for my central Florida area for today (it was 26 degrees) and it’s supposed to get still colder this morning.

I am currently praying to Anubis for the continued strength and durability of my dog’s bladder.

It’s expected to get into the 20s tomorrow morning and feel like the teens. I feel like this violates some sort of longstanding Florida agreement.

I do not need and have absolutely no room for an old organ that no longer works.

I have been telling myself this for 45 minutes.

You think Cracker Barrel is overcompensating for the whole “new logo” thing?

“Look! We love our logo! Look at all the reasons you love us! Remember? Huh? Remember?”

I’m expecting to see employees lightly mist everyone coming in with chicken gravy.
January 25, 2026 at 2:35 PM
I hadn’t realized how much local awareness I’d lost no longer working in the Daytona office till I planned a Cracker Barrel-Costco run this morning and found out the Rolex 24 is going on.

Oops.

It’s been DECADES since I haven’t had to monitor race traffic to avoid hours-long waits.

Younger son was playing with his band at DeLand PrideFest today.

Always weird seeing your offspring be really good at something you are not. Also, really cool.

Me: We have been together since we were children. Almost every happy moment in my life has been with you.

Teresa: Almost?

Me: Well, you never came with me to watch Marvel movies.

For soime insane reason I foolishly rolled over onto my other side last night and now my neck and shoulder are locked up, in case you were curious how much fun being 60 is.

Eight years ago we adopted this lovable goofball.

Still the most affectionate dog we’ve ever had, and the most empathic. We have often discovered a cold or fever was coming on because he got more attentive.

He also has the best comic timing of any dog I’ve ever met.

That’s for choosing us.

Today Florida honors both a civil rights leader and a Civil War general.

It wasn’t intentional.
Why is Florida honoring Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert E. Lee the same day?
On Monday, Jan. 19, Florida honors two historic figures with very different goals: Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and General Robert E. Lee.
