A propos demographic decline... I travel a fair bit through Europe with kids and I don’t know how many times @floriangkern.bsky.social has heard me saying that I am convinced Europeans are speedily losing the habit of seeing kids around and interacting with them. Now this.

Isn’t it amazing that China leaves Europe in the dust on EVs yet the EU policy response is to be more lenient on regulating combustion engine car emissions?

I keep seeing arguments that the Government should have spent the money on services eg Sure Start rather than lifting the two-child benefit cap.

The evidence for cash transfers is very strong. And cash transfers go straight to families.

Their decision is completely evidence backed and valid.

Cas Mudde spells out what has become largely the consensus among researchers: moving right on immigration will not weaken the far right nor strengthen social democracy. If your reaction is "but in Denmark" please at least familiarize yourself with Danish politics

The ‘Danish model’ is the darling of centre-left parties like Labour. The problem is, it doesn’t even work in Denmark | Cas Mudde
This week’s local elections are the latest reminder that when social democrats move rightwards, they’re making a mistake, says academic and author Cas Mudde

I feel like if you had to ban social media for any group of people for their own protection, you should probably start with people over 60.

I think one of the better, more subtle tributes to Robert Redford's life is the string of utterly iconic female co-stars who've come forward to eulogize him; each of them take-no-shit types like Fonda and Streisand, and every one of them without a single bad thing to say. A model for male behavior

The difference is that the “office junior” will presumably not make up studies or mistakenly transcribe key statistics even when mistakes are pointed out, which “Deep Research” does constantly. These are errors you notice when you ask ChatGPT to produce a report on something you’re an expert in.
This is just obviously untrue, as anyone who has used Deep Research can plainly see. Too many people still have their head in the sand.
openai promises a chatgpt model with 'research grade intelligence' (if you pay them $200 a month). what they don't tell you is that it's the "research" capability of a 4th grader

But now he's taking them away from millions of mommas and babies.

Vaccine recommendations should be based on science, not RFK Jr.'s political agenda.

This was actually a point of debate when GDP was first defined. The fact that government expenditure is included is an accounting definition. GDP is not a measure of fiscal sustainability.
If you're teaching Introductory Macro, here's a useful exam question: "Based on your knowledge of how GDP is calculated, is Elon right? Explain (in up to 280 characters)." #TeachEcon
