Jesus Christ, processing black walnuts is even harder than I remembered!

I'm bleeding but didn't hammer my hand, so that's something. Definitely going to try to save for a (deep sigh) Grandpa's Goodie Getter next year.

The books-without-pictures that male audiences *are* still reading in their hundreds of thousands tend to be escapist. Thrillers, detective stories, SFF. This is just the nature of a down economy. People have plenty of grim realism in real life. Peak Male Lit corresponded to Peak Economy (1950s-90s)

In the last years of his life, Henry VIII’s legs were covered with ulcerous wounds so noxious people could smell him three rooms away, yet none of his underlings dared mention it out of fear of his rage. Thinking about that for no particular reason.

those of us laid off from Teen Vogue were really fortunate to complete our fundraising goal — the laid-off staffers at VIBE deserve the same support, as Black media outlets and journalists continue to be targeted and discriminated against in “austerity” measures
It was announced on October 16, 2025 that VIBE was "joining forces" with Rolling Stone. As a result, the majority of VIBE employees were laid off. If you have the means to give, this team could use the support! www.gofundme.com/f/support-vi...

GO GEN Z!!! What a thread!
Those claiming Dems should retreat on racial justice aren't hard-headed realists, they're pushing against the electoral tide rather than leaning into it. The story of Gen Z isn't about racist backlash or red-pilled young men. It's the most racially progressive generation in American history. 🧵

Everyone should have to explore their gender/transition. HAVE to, like legally.

Also any dollar you make over like, 3 million* automatically goes to the poorest person in the country.

*Number obviously pulled from my ass, I don't care enough about rich people to think harder about it
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

There's no point hoping no one will get hurt, after all.

Look, unless these people are prepared to sue or otherwise confront the Religious Society of Friends, they really need to let it fucking go
a senior person in the field once went on a bit of a rant about how it was incorrect to use ‘they’ for a singular person because it is grammatically plural. Sorta an unremarkable story, but I always found it funny that one of the main things (cough) they worked on was Wittgenstein’s investigations

Cyrano de Bergerac. I took French in 7th and 8th grade and my wonderful teacher would show us French movies, including the Depardieu (booo) version. I adored it and got my hands on the play.

It was all the heroism I loved in my X-Men comics, but with so much more. I took it for a template of life.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"
