The US Coast Guard issues a new, more stringent policy on hate symbols including the swastika, just hours after The Washington Post reported that the service would instead classify such symbols as “potentially divisive” under new guidelines. wapo.st/4rdDQew
In reversal, Coast Guard again classifies swastikas, nooses as hate symbols
The new order came hours after The Post reported the service would instead classify such symbols as “potentially divisive” under guidelines set for release next month.

I recently re-listened to the audiobook version of Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. I don't reread books; I certainly don't re-listen. But this one may deserve a third hearing. It's THAT good.

⬇️ I wish this surprised me but based on what I know it’s accurate. And this kind of harassment happens even now, even today, in all spheres of life.
In honor of Larry Summers, I asked the female members of my college class (1987) to say if they had any experiences with sexual harassment by teachers/professors, back when this was tolerated as, I dunno, the cost of attending college, and OH MY GOD.

RFK Jr had committed to Bill Cassidy, as a condition to win his vote, that he would keep website language.

Cassidy in February: “If confirmed… CDC will not remove statements on their website pointing out that vaccines do not cause autism.”

Note the language in second photo.

New Gallup data shows a historic shift: only 49% of Americans now say religion is important in their daily lives, down from 66% in 2015.

Fewer Americans identify with religion, fewer attend church, and more embrace secular values every year.

That same pastor: "Hey ChatGPT, write a sermon based on..."

Here's something I didn't learn as a kid but plan to pass on to my own kids:

Don't invest in individual stocks unless it's your full-time job to trade or to build companies. Buy the index, every time.

Why do Premium saltines come in full sleeves and Lance saltines come only in packets of two? Is there some sort of ancient curse involved?

I’m as Protestant as they come—I mean, I’m a pastor who is happily married to a clergywoman, for goodness sake-but I don’t think I’ll ever get over the fact that the pope is an American

We call it the Connection, and it’s my favorite part about being a United Methodist. This is how we do church!
Buried in here: UMC pastors in Chicago told me they were going to keep doing this for a wide spectrum of Methodists who have legal battles amid the ongoing mass deportation effort in the city — immigrant families, pastors who have been arrested, etc.

Some serious denominational solidarity here.
NEW: So, the courtroom at the "Broadview 6" arraignment in Chicago yesterday featured lotsa Methodist pastors.

Why? They were supporters of defendant/fellow Methodist Brian Straw.

"If you come for one United Methodist, you have come for all of us,” one pastor said. religionnews.com/2025/11/13/m...
