“There’s a public health imperative to quickly expand the adoption of autonomous vehicles.”

Would the author say the same about building bike lanes? Installing automatic traffic cameras? Requiring Intelligent Speed Assist?

All of those are proven to save lives — and at a fraction of AVs' cost.

this halloween in the midst of an unrelenting torrent of bad news here in the u.s. we've had a small bright spot in our building.

one of our neighbors is in the first grade & has really embraced the holiday. he waylaid my partner in the lobby a week ago to catch him up on the countdown of days

hmmm maybe @golikehellmachine.com might boost this?

hi @golikehellmachine.com ! presto is an alternative streaming service for those who listen to classical & jazz, they pay per second listened. there's a link below to an article, from them, discussing the difference this can make.

& we aren't (yet! i live in hope!) charging them by weight for the excess wear on our streets.
waymo has a limited rollout because it is a bad business, not a bad technology. just depreciating $60k worth of optics per car is comparably expensive to paying a guy $10/hr to drive it.
It's fascinating to me that there's a whole "AI skeptic" misinformation ecosystem out there that somehow continues to deny that Waymo exists. Like, this is easy to fact check! Waymo runs publicly-available service in 5 cities, you can just go look up how it works and see it's not planned routes!

before my sardinia trip in september i had a gel manicure & damn if that auto paint esque shit did not hold up astoundingly well to 7! straight days of 1) long swim early in the morning, & 2) every additional swim i could finagle among strolls, figs, gelato & insanely good seafood.

I encourage all the media outlets who are about to send people to ”war ravaged” Portland to think twice. Some of the strongest extremism reporters in the country live in this region; journalists who understand the culture of the Northwest and the history of activism here. Do it right this time okay?

Whats a record you lent and never got back that haunts you still?

one of the lasting joys of my recent trip to italy was discovering & following the soc media account of a roman yarn store, cafilan. in the end i didn't trek out to visit in person but it never fails to delight when their endless parade of glittery, fluffy, blingy yarns pops up in a feed.

i have such simple, achievable, sensible, boring desires that yet appear utterly out of reach in my lifetime in this absurd country. like why is it crazy utopian to want to board an actually *slow* train at 9 p.m. in sf, tuck myself into a sleeper berth, & wake up in union station l.a. at 7 a.m.???

NYT reporting today that the admin. is planning to use the U.S. military ag/ cartels. This has actually been in the works for awhile as I argued in this Foreign Affairs piece from April.

It's part of what I see as an effort to politicize the military and transform it into a partisan force. 1/
