this goes right along with my theory that the AI obsession in *users* is often bc…

1. they were never educated (esp "ipad generation") & don't know how computers work

2. our tools and services are all SO AWFUL NOW, degraded at best, actively user-hostile at worst

Much was written & cited this past week on the Watson & Crick DNA paper-- which was a race-to-first, rather than an isolated insight.

Who has made discoveries that have pushed science, technology, or medicine forward faster? Einstein, Curie, Nakamura, McClintock, Salk, Borlaug, etc.

Who else?

well, I'm biased... but i think absolutely! 😂

WAY more things in the database (like 1000s more). more FPs, dyes, filters from all providers. (The thermo viewer is primarily their own products). share/restore/download state.

plus, it's open source, non-commercial, and accepts contribs

try it? 👍

One of the most useful resources for anyone who uses fluorescence methods.
The FPbase spectra viewer just had it's biggest software refactor in 6 years. It *should* be largely invisible to the end user (hopefully just faster and less buggy). Please let me know if you find any issues as you use it!

2️⃣ "The UK’s productivity crisis is one of the biggest challenges facing our economy and long-term health conditions in the workforce are a major factor in this"

🤦‍♀️Neither mentions #LongCovid

I will try to do a tweetorial about this paper when I have more energy but this is really important data. It looks (tentatively, preliminarily) that COVID-19 mRNA vaccines might significantly enhance the effectiveness of cancer immunotherapy (subject to many caveats).
SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccines sensitize tumours to immune checkpoint blockade
Nature - mRNA vaccines targeting SARS-CoV-2 also sensitize tumours to immune checkpoint inhibitors.

How does the brain balance learning new things without overwriting what it already knows? Our new paper tackles this long-standing stability–plasticity dilemma during active navigation. With Tony Drinnenberg from the Deisseroth Lab (@deisseroth.bsky.social)

Environmental Novelty Modulates Rapid Cortical Plasticity During Navigation
In novel environments, animals quickly learn to navigate, and position-correlated spatial representations rapidly emerge in both the retrosplenial cortex (RSC) and primary visual cortex (V1). However,...
