And while I’m at it, please consider getting your therapy and mental health services from local providers instead of using predatory tech companies as intermediaries :)
This law is a HUGE WIN for behavioral healthcare + mental health professionals in Illinois. Incredibly grateful for the badass advocacy of social worker and policy advocate State Representative Lindsey LaPointe!
It may soon be easier for Illinois residents to find therapists who accept their insurance, after Gov. JB Pritzker signed a bill into law Friday taking aim at insurance reimbursement rates for behavioral health services.

The new law, which will take full effect in January 2027, creates a formula outlining how much insurers must pay therapists for their services.

Went on the @chicagocta.bsky.social holiday train tonight and had an absolute blast. Stumbled into @chicagodiner.bsky.social - what a wonderful spot. Judging by the size and energy in Logan Square, it’ll certainly be missed.

URGENT ACTION NEEDED:

Mayor Johnson's 2026 bond proposal defunds safe streets infrastructure by a whopping 70% – putting our communities in jeopardy by threatening the progress we've made in preventative infrastructure.

Email him and your alderperson today and tell them to reverse course!
Tell the city NO to 70% cuts to safe streets funding!

Indeed. My wife and I are senior citizen bicyclists for much of our daily travel and we largely avoid Grand Avenue east of Damen because of its lousy street environment that feels unsafe for bicyclists and pedestrians. Grand could be a destination rathe than a high volume channel for car throughput.
December 11, 2025 at 1:53 PM
With better infrastructure for bikers and pedestrians, that stretch of Grand could start attracting more people to spend time and money, like Chicago Ave or Division. It is hard for me to comprehend why a business owner on Grand wouldn’t want to see these changes.
Was there for most of this meeting. Despite the best efforts of the organizer (Roger Romanelli, the activist who helped kill the Ashland Ave. BRT) to guide the participants to oppose the Grand Ave. street upgrade that include protected bike lanes, most audience members were resolute in PBL support.
This evening, there is an opportunity to show up in support of the proposed Grand Ave protected bike lanes! 🚲

A word of advice for all the transit advocates out there: our state elected officials are putting their careers on the line to save transit right now. It is critical to show unwavering support for these people.

These new taxes are going to be wildly unpopular. It's our job to educate the public

Streets are not “closed” when they’re free of cars; they’re car free. They’re safer. They’re full of people. They aren’t “closed”

The reason billionaires like McMahon are obsessed with student debt is that creating financial precarity makes people more stressed about losing their job. If you’re worried about your job you’re less likely to quit and find work elsewhere. You’re less likely to ask for a raise. It’s pure class war.
McMahon: "The plan is very simple. We have announced that beginning May 5, you must start to repay your loan. This is not to in any way to try to cause hardship. There are several different payment plans ... but they need to get on it. Because there isn't going to be any loan forgiveness program."

The other thing no one does (including myself, except in zines) is print their photos. The 2000s will be horribly preserved photographically. How much stuff has disappeared from Flickr and Photobucket? Historians are just gonna be buying used SIM cards at flea markets and hoping for the best!😂

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

A former French military base, Vauban is a thriving neighbourhood of 5,500 residents connected to Freiburg town centre by bus and light rail. Built in the late 1990s as a radical experiment in low-car living, it forgoes virtually all on-street parking in favour of active, green, and social spaces. 🧵

Letters: Illinois can help support local farmers with the Good Food Purchasing Law

As the U.S. shifts into a volatile political landscape targeting critical thinking, I want to share an important reminder to the #booksky community:

The only way to preserve literature is by collecting physical copies.

I know, Kindle users, it sucks—but your digital copy can be deleted any time.

94% of teachers have had to dip into their own pockets to buy school supplies.

The average Wall Street employee got a $176,500 bonus last year.

Something has gone terribly wrong.
Teachers in the U.S. will spend an estimated $3.35 billion of their own money on classroom supplies in the 2024-25 school year.

The average teacher will spend $883.60.

The bias and partisan control of these institutions isn't a natural fact. It's a product of neglect by Democratic politicians to reshape the rules of the game where & when they could to enrich & reinforce the institutional avenues available to them to realize their policy goals.
The Senate and Supreme Court are *extremely* tilted against Democrats and could stay that way for a long time
Obviously, the Democrats are still reeling from Trump's win, and there is focus on what Harris could or should have done differently (not much, probably!). Yet, the Dems' biggest long term issue is the Senate. The Democrats desperately need to expand the Senate map. 1/x
