Personally I think it shows the deep tolerance of Scotland that it allows so many kids to keep speaking a foreign language like English. Forcing them all to learn Gaelic, Scots or Norn seems a bit much to me.

In Kherson Russian terrorists murdered scientist Tetiana Asaulyuk.

On December 2, at about 20:30, Russian forces shelled the city with artillery. A 37‑year‑old woman was killed inside her own home. Her life extinguished not on the battlefield, but in the supposed safety of her walls.

Despite rising tensions and the alleged closure of Venezuelan airspace, U.S. deportation flights to Venezuela have continued on their usual Wed/Fri schedule. The 74th such flight of the year (EAL8280) is currently en route from Phoenix, AZ to Caracas.

The main tension here for progressives is that it’s not “the bureaucracy” that slows things down but the thousands of veto points of “community input” that we have created and continue to defend.
Lesson one: Yes, you can do a lot of things if you break the law.
Lesson two: Doing something is not the same as doing a good thing - it is harder to build than it is to destroy.
Trump has built nothing like the TVA. His lawbreaking is not "freeing the stuck wheels of bureaucracy."

If your naturalization case is or will be put on hold by this, especially after the interview, go see an immigration lawyer now.

Naturalization is not discretionary, and federal judges have a unique role in deciding delayed naturalization cases.
The Trump admin has paused all immigration and naturalization processes for people from one of the 19 travel ban countries; including Cuba and Venezuela.

Even people who fully passed the citizenship exam are having their cases put on hold, just inches from the finish line.
Scoop: The Trump administration has paused all immigration applications filed by people from 19 countries banned from travel to the United States earlier this year, halting green card and U.S. citizenship processing for broad swaths of people.

More coming soon.

If you actually read the story, the actual problem is that farmers dump tons of nitrates on their soil that leak into the aquifer. But we can't do anything about that so let's blame Amazon.
There is a movement to "prove that the datacenter water issues is fake". If you venture into Muskrat's hell site, you can see the community note these people put on this great piece of investigative journalism, accusing them of unfairly implicating datacenters.

Nayra Guzmán was 15 days post C-section — going to see her baby in the NICU — when she was taken to Broadview and held in custody for about 34 hours.

She slept on a bench and barely got food. She couldn't pump.

Her story is a rare window into the growing detention of pregnant & postpartum people.
Her baby was in the NICU. She was in ICE detention.
Before Trump took office, postpartum immigrants were rarely detained by ICE. Nayra Guzmán was detained while her 15-day-old baby was in the NICU.

I want us to hang on to the fact that the people who were murdered were just civilians out in boats, most likely fishermen, who had never even heard the sketchy conclusions of American officials for which they were executed, much less had a chance to defend themselves.
Megyn Kelly on alleged war crimes: "I really do kind of not only wanna see them killed in the water, whether they're on the boat or in the water, but I'd really like to see them suffer. I would like Trump and Hegseth to make it last a long time so they lose a limb and bleed out."

There sometimes actual environmental impacts to prevent or mitigate but so much CEQA alternatives analysis is done as an ineffective proxy for planning, because the underlying presumption is avoiding harm rather than achieving goals
“Environmental review is not planning” is one of those statements that is so obviously true but nearly every thing about transportation institutions and environmental review in California/US pushes against it.

A 13-year-old rode his motorcycle at 50 mph down a residential street.

Most of us can agree that 13-year-olds should be riding bikes, and should not be riding motorcycles!
