I don’t hate Carol. She’s supposed to be unlikeable, but I don’t see her as a Karen. I see her as someone whose resistance to change reads as trauma response: she’s distrustful and cynical, especially toward people who want to force change onto her. And with good reason. #pluribus

I spoke with the wonderful Samba Schutte about filming #Pluribus Episode 6 before any other, the joy of working with Rhea Seehorn as a scene partner, Diabaté’s hidden depths, why he was also surprised by that celebrity cameo, and more:

wrote all about this in my latest essay! engaging with art is practice getting comfortable with being uncomfortable, and being curious about your discomfort vs. avoiding it altogether.

People think children should “take what they’re given” because we were taught to. But settling isn’t a life skill worth passing down. Having preferences and not liking something is not being “ungrateful”-it’s being a person. CHILDREN ARE PEOPLE.

They’re allowed to dislike, refuse, and have preferences. Performative gratitude teaches nothing. I’m not expecting my kids to be excited about something they didn’t ask for or don’t want. I think it’s ridiculous, actually. You can say no thanks. There’s power in that. That’s what EYE teach my kids.

Acknowledging that we are living under a fascist regime at the Federal level is essential for figuring out how to fight. And I'm sorry but burying one's head in the sand at this moment is actually allowing fascism to be further entrenched & authority more easily consolidated.

Being able to have deep convos is good but imo, a lot of ppl are not as deep as they think they are lol.

Thinking you’re too good for the light chatter that forms human interaction isn’t special.

Now, we are cooking with gas. People seek to “optimize” every interaction, forgetting that the human experience is made up of fleeting chance, knowing for the sake of knowing, and just because.
I think there is something very weird happening where people seem to think that the time spent on and with any other human is time wasted and not a fundamental part of the human experience to be sought out and enjoyed

It is why ppl complain about “small talk” at work or anywhere for that matter.

Every convo cannot be deep as the Marianas Trench. The skill is in being able to swim at every depth.

I really hate when people curse at their kids like bruh…it’s very unnecessary

In my life the people who have experienced familial betrayal before romantic betrayal, are a tiny bit inured to the pains of romantic heartbreak. But my family was my solace in the midst of platonic and romantic heartbreak.

You know how every decade has its own movie villain? Like how the villain in 80s movies was a buff Russian guy, or the villain in 2000s movies was some sort of terrorist?

After watching Mickey 17 and Superman I think the 2020s villain archetype is weirdo freak billionaire with a god complex
