It seems likely that City Council will pass legislation banning AI rental price-fixing at tonight's meeting. But the Council's conversation about the ban has raised interesting questions (and caused some drama, too). For example, do renter protections necessarily mean reduced housing development?
Portland City Council to Vote on AI Rental Price-Fixing Software Ban
After months of uncertainty, a policy to ban the sale or use of algorithmic rental price-fixing software in Portland is back on the table. The proposed ordinance, brought to Portland City Council by C...

Today Portland City Council will have a final hearing and vote on my Algorithmic Price Fixing Ban!

So grateful for leaders like @agdanrayfield.bsky.social for leading the charge in the courts. Corporations should not be taking advantage of regular people for profit. Affordable rent NOW!
BREAKING NEWS: We’ve secured a $7 million settlement holding the largest U.S. landlord accountable for a price fixing scheme – and putting a check on the rising cost of rentals.

Highlighting the work that was done to gather data on the impact of sweeps on our unhoused population.

We will further exacerbate an endless game of whack a mole where people become homeless and we expand contracts and industry for sweeps.

Everyone loses here.

Today Council will go over my updated Algorithmic Price Fixing Ban.

At noon we will begin our discussion on the Fall technical Adjustment Ordinance and my proposal to funnel money away from the sweep industrial complex to programs that actually end homelessness.

In the week since Mayor Wilson began enforcing the public camping ban, we are seeing MORE tents in East Portland. Those folks are just being swept into my district.

I told the mayor that this is what would happen and asked him to bring extra resources to East PDX to meet the displaced. He did not.
November 9, 2025 at 5:47 PM
Our amendment doesn’t cut those things.

Mayor Wilson could’ve called me to clarify and ask questions before blasting us in a newsletter, but of course he has to find a scapegoat when he doesn’t magically end homelessness on 12/1 by warehousing people.

Looking forward to clarifying this tomorrow.
The Impact Reduction Program also provides trash abatement, which is essential in maintaining clean, walkable sidewalks for all Portlanders. We shouldn‘t cut their budget.

“Angelita Morillo proposed an amendment reallocating money from a city sweeps program, instead funding housing and food assistance, support for immigrants.”
Portland City Council will consider an amendment next week to redirect $4.3 million from the city program that sweeps homeless encampments. If passed, the budget adjustment will instead invest $2 million in rent and food assistance, and support for immigrants and refugees.

We’re seeing increased and aggressive ICE activity across the Portland metro region — including around sensitive locations like schools.

Save the PIRC hotline on your phone and call/text if you witness ICE activity: 888-622-1510
Cesar Chavez School and George Middle School have implemented the PPS's “secure the perimeter” protocol amid reports of ICE activity in the neighborhood.

Increased ICE activity in North Portland today has led Portland Public Schools to lock exterior doors at César Chávez School and George Middle School, along with other protective measures. Other North Portland schools are monitoring the situation closely.

ICE is also using the same surveillance technology that was tested on Palestinians against immigrants and protestors who are protecting immigrants in America.

My Detention Facility Fee policy will have a first hearing at the morning Council Session on 11/5. It will be posted tomorrow on the website, and I will repost a link for people to submit written testimony. I also recommend emailing your district Councilors if this is an issue that matters to you.

Before becoming a City Councilor I was an anti-hunger policy advocate working to expand SNAP access. What the federal administration is doing is morally bankrupt. We need a functioning government so families can afford to eat. I was proud to sign on to this statement.

Multnomah County and Portland leaders, community partners call on Trump administration to fund food assistance to prevent hardship, hunger and suffering for 136,000 County residents
The federal administration can immediately act to release these contingency funds at any time — today, even — and spare 136,000 of our neighbors from needless suffering and hunger.

Grateful for the local perspective at the New York Times from @agpnw.bsky.social

"Ms. Morillo said she planned to create an impact fee on detention centers within city limits [...] to cover public costs such as cleaning up environmental damage caused by the use of tear gas against demonstrators."
Oregon has one of the most complex sets of zoning and land use laws in the U.S. Portland, under pressure from its liberal residents, is using those restrictions against immigrant detention.
To Fight ICE, Portland’s Leaders Turn to What They Know Best: Zoning
Portland, Ore., is well known for its dense laws on land use. Now, under pressure from its liberal residents, the city is using those restrictions against immigrant detention.

It’s redundant to say “little Angelita” because my name literally translates to “tiny angel” lol.

When we win, we will not allow billionaires to turn us against each other while they rob us of our futures. Our immigrant neighbors will be safe and we will share the world lovingly with one another.
What will happen when little Angelita "wins?"

Our evening Council session where we're discussing two policies to address the federal government's actions is still going. We have a resolution to outline our future actions to protect constituents from ICE, and codification of our sanctuary city status to give it more force.

I am bringing more.

Kristi Noem & a right wing influencer that peaked in high school r visiting PDX today

My spooky season advice is that u treat these ppl like demons trying to goad u into stepping out of ur protective salt circle so they can enact violence

They need flashy footage to make $$$ on their livestreams!
Noem’s agenda for the trip has not been announced.

Sen. Wyden had a blunt response: “Kristi Noem is cosplaying as a public official. In reality, she’s been sent by Trump to incite violence."
