We are not cutting the glitter program. That is part of a misinformation campaign.

Please refer to this thread for full details on my Detention Facility Impact Fee:

Grateful for the local perspective at the New York Times from @agpnw.bsky.social

"Ms. Morillo said she planned to create an impact fee on detention centers within city limits [...] to cover public costs such as cleaning up environmental damage caused by the use of tear gas against demonstrators."
Oregon has one of the most complex sets of zoning and land use laws in the U.S. Portland, under pressure from its liberal residents, is using those restrictions against immigrant detention.

Every Portlander has been impacted by the unique costs that Detention Facilities have on our community because we all pay taxes for police overtime, road closures, and environmental mitigation for tear gas.

This is my response to community concerns about these impacts.

The Council President has only allocated 1 hour to hear this ordinance before the full Council, and my colleagues will have questions I can't brief them on without breaking quorum rules. Because of that I highly recommend people submit written testimony so that we have time for a robust discussion.

On a personal note, people have reached out to us who are hurt that this happened at all. We hear you, and we’re sorry you're hurting. We’re fighting for all Portlanders, and that includes you.

With love and solidarity,

Councilors Green, Kanal, Koyama Lane, and Morillo

As Councilors with varied identities, we share deep solidarity with all marginalized people in this historic moment.

Whether we are Palestinian, Jewish, immigrants, disabled, Black, Indigenous, people of color, working class, our liberation is tied together.

We want to affirm that always.

After assessing what happened and having extensive conversations with DSA leadership and with each other, we have concluded that this was an accident. Procedures have been set up to avoid mistakes like this in the future.

Rockne Roll should not have been removed from that call.

Last week, we attended a press conference regarding a pledge to investigate the economic ties that Portland has with Israel, because boycotting a genocide with our dollars is often the most powertul tool we have.

The Oregonian did not reach out all DSA electeds on the call to get a quote from them about the inadvertent exclusion of a Jewish Federation of Portland and Jewish Review writer, Rockne Roll.

We wanted to take a moment to clear the air for any community members that were impacted.

This holds true even for people we disagree with, and we take issue with exclusion regardless of whether it is intentional or unintentional. Our democracy is a better place when everyone has a seat at the table.

I mean this policy hasn’t been done anywhere else in the nation so it is creative but I take your point lol
