Returning to twitter to minister to the hogs and do my part to improve the conversation. Fixing Andrew Tate's heart by talking about the NBA with him. Replying "Are you watching Plurbus" to a Rod Dreher post about demonic possession and kicking off a healing round of good-natured discourse.

Yep. I have a term for it.

Used in this way, "some say" and "critics say" are signals warning us that what comes next is not truth-seeking but refuge-seeking behavior.

"Depends on you ask" operates in similar fashion.
A common dodge here seems to be to use the framing of "some say", which allows you to pretend you are being objective. Even then, the actual correct terminology might not even be used. "Some say prisoners are being interrogated in ways that could be considered unethical."

(1/2) This court is a problem that won't go away. They'll block everything the next Dem president does.

Got to start talking about "court reform" now. "Republicans in robes", "corruption". Not "packing" or "expanding".

Start framing the discussion now.

We know that...

I feel like this is healthy. I really love these Midwest soul-rock boys, but I’m not a maniac about it.

@erikloomis.bsky.social I could tell you this is a great line, but better still my wife could tell you it’s a bullseye.

It’s cold comfort, but this is something I’ve thought often during this horrible period.
Another almost comfort I have is that this ignorant child of privilege wanted nothing more than to be accepted into the ranks of the glamorous elites, but they shunned him for being what he is.

He was married to Marla Maples when he sexually assaulted E. Jean Carroll. Wonder if he told his wife about that when he got home.
Trump: "Can you imagine a wife not telling a husband who she's voting for? Did you ever hear anything like that? Even if you had a horrible -- if you had a bad relationship, you're gonna tell your husband."

Maybe you’re too proud to rerun your old hits from the other site. But this is one that cannot be allowed to diminish and go into the West.

Thomas Huxley (Darwin's Bulldog) on vax denialists: 140 yrs ago:

Those trying to prevent the use of Pasteur's newly invented rabies vaccine, “hate everything which contributes to prove the value of strictly scientific methods of inquiry in all those questions which affect the welfare of society."
Can’t overstate how dangerous it is that vaccine denial has completely captured one of the two major parties. We’re an election or two from unraveling one of humanity’s greatest achievements. The potential long tail damage is millions of preventable deaths. Just absolutely bonkers.

It is actively a good thing that conservatives are more excluded and lonely. If that leads to their mental health collapsing so they're less able to organize and threaten others that is also good. It is entirely self-inflicted and they don't deserve an ounce of sympathy.

I mean if conservatives can't find dates they could always try not being reprehensible people who don't hold the most evil beliefs imaginable, but that's apparently too much to ask.

Every time I see one of these stories I think how many are kept safer by their well-deserved exclusion and isolation.

If you’re dual-posting here and on Xitter, I invite you to consider not doing that anymore. You’re not reaching your audience there anyway

My take on last night's debate. Walz did what he needed to do. JD is a scary mofo because he lies the way the beltway media like politicians to lie. But in the end, I think the J6 stuff will hurt him and Trump. balloon-juice.com/2024/10/02/y...
