Perhaps some day, over a glass of whiskey that I accept, despite my gastritis, we could talk frankly about this.
For the "primary them all" enthusiasts, one of my readers went to an event featuring the two opponents of Diana DeGette (CO-1), who's kind of a do-nothing backbencher. DeGette should be very worried. Also, a look at Jeffries' potential opponent. Jeffries should be worried, too.

(1/X) A lot of good commentary out there on why Dems shouldn't have caved, a lot of it from people I don't usually agree with: Yggy and the Nates, Jon Stewart (!).

For me, it all comes down to Cedric the Entertainer: you have to wish that a motherfucker would cancel all the flights/cut SNAP....

There — I fixed the analysis so it is actually accurate to what happened when 8 Senate Dems caved instead of keeping up the righteous fight to deliver lower health care costs for Americans.

I will let my caucus do it for me, while hiding behind them, and expect you to believe my lies.
I will not support the Republican bill that’s on the Senate floor because it fails to do anything of substance to fix America’s healthcare crisis.

This is my favorite part of this cycle we've been repeating for my entire adult life: when they sit backwards on the chair for some real talk and explain that you're a fucking peasant who doesn't understand how things work.

My family has been without half our income for 40 days. It has been.. very hard.

We are willing to feel that pain so people can have health care next year, or to undo these illegal recissions.

We are not willing to have been put through this for NOTHING.

In other words, the usual shit that the Senate leadership expects us to eat with a smile. Anyone who's got an election next year can say they voted "no".

As if that matters.

The caucus failed us, collectively. It was a group failure and should be treated as such.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

This is not a deal — it's an empty promise.

Trump and his Republican Congress are making healthcare more expensive for the middle class and ending it for working families.

Time for Democrats to stand tall for affordable healthcare. www.politico.com/news/2025/11...

Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.
