Took me a bit to process how big a deal this report actually is--its thus far the only review to look at the entire body of currently available research. It took two years to conduct, stands at 1,000 pages, and completely contradicts the Cass Review and the common arguments for bans on this care.
Republicans in Utah commissioned an investigation into gender-affirming care for trans youth after banning it in 2023.

They're now rejecting the findings of that investigation which showed access to care reduced suicides and improved "positive mental health and psychosocial functioning outcomes."
Utah lawmakers’ own study found gender-affirming care benefits trans youth. Will they lift the treatment ban?
The Utah Legislature's own newly-released study found that gender-affirming care benefits trans youth. Now, will lawmakers lift the treatment ban?

Nodding my head and pumping my fist listening to @leahwest-nsl.bsky.social talk about the anti-democratic intransigence of RCMP resisting long needed reform on the secure-line podcast - massively under covered esp considering multiple overlapping scandals

One problem with the idea of reserving due process for law-abiding people is that due process is how we figure out which people are law-abiding.

Historically, law enforcement determinations of who is or isn’t in a gang has been some of the most entrails-of-a-sheep subjective voodoo bullshit in the entire criminal justice system. So now if a neo-Nazi is wiling to call you a gang member you are summarily deported.
REPORTER: How do you determine whether somebody is a gang member? What criteria do you use?

This is what Gavin Newsom and the consultant class endorses when they try to play footsie with people opposed to trans people's very existence. There is no polite, liberal way to push people out of public life--you ultimately need the state to inspect people's bodies and enforce compliance.

I avoid this bubble bias by following people like Will who I (respectfully) think is a thin skinned dullard but like 1/20 condescending posts he has something to say that I am initially resistant to but eventually come around; this thread was alright - 19/20 still blind rage tho
In this ecosystem people tend to gravitate towards ideas that reaffirm their existing prejudices and biases.

As I've said in the past, the problem isn't information bubbles but information buffets: online and in partisan media, you can pick whatever narrative is most emotionally satisfying.

funny that the new metric for a social media site's success is if it produces healthy political discourse between "sides." by that measure, years of evidence suggests that twitter failed. it accelerated fracture, radicalized people into fringe politics, and became a tool for the reactionary right
