Hello, friends! After 10(!) years of #AdventOfCode, I've made some changes to preserve my sanity: there will be 12 days of puzzles each December (still starting Dec 1) and there is no longer a global leaderboard. Read more:

Correct. If the birthdate field contains corrupt or mismatched data, it defaults to 1875-05-20, which serves as a flag. May 20, 1875, is the day the international standards and metrics treaty was signed. Everything is a conspiracy when you don’t know how anything works.

This random web form hides phone number and email (so that no one can see you typing them?) and then shows you a modal on submission with them fully visible. Amazing stuff

Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

This is a must-read and is also the first comprehensive post mortem I’ve read working off the vote cast data (which is the real deal) as opposed to the dubious exit polling.

Huh oh. As a committed anti-conspiracy-theorist for the "phones listen to your microphone and targeted ads based on what you say" thing I can tell this is going to be exhausting
I think probably 95% of speculation that your phone is secretly listening to you is overblown, but man the tech industry really does not do itself any favors with that 5% arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...

First I had heard of this issue, but this is such a bad idea. It sounds like satire, but isn't, to take a school's basketball court and turn it into residential and commercial real estate. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

The Gastown steam clock now plays Shake it Off. In fact, all public art in Vancouver has been replaced with effigies of Taylor Swift, traffic lights now go from Ivy to Red (Taylor's Version), and a new road has been paved to New Westminster, running diagonally for some reason, called Swiftsway

Really reminds me of the BC payments the Horgan government sent through ICBC, that went only to drivers. Terrible use of funds.
Interesting that this specifies "working" Canadians, so the cheques would be sent to someone who earned $140K last year, but not, say, someone on disability payments, students, or seniors
