Lesson 6: If you have a theory of the Supreme Court that does not include political ideology, its going to be wrong. During the Biden administration it was all major questions because they did not like his policies, and during Trump it is mostly unitary executive, because they do.

Because the current President is a Republican. Duh.

Newsmax turning on Trump feels like a bellwether moment

I think there’s a lot more internal pressure behind the scenes on the administration from even their usual allies to give Hegseth the boot before he brings the whole house of cards down

but they won’t because they’re all stubborn assholes so
Woah. Newsmax’s legal analyst just said Pete Hegseth and everyone involved in the illegal boat strike should be “prosecuted for a war crime.”

They’ve even lost Newsmax on this one.

THIS!

A marginal Republican seat is in the range from 0 to about R+5. There are a whole lot of people in seats between R+5 and R+19 who thought they had more to fear from a primary challenge than a general election opponent who are now rethinking that.
Ds don't seem to be getting what they need out of Nashville. But if the margin lands at R+3, that's a D+19 shift from 2024 -- we're not talking a wave, we're talking tsunami
again @gelliottmorris.com says behn still has a chance but damn 3 points in this district is 🦇💩

Trump is going to (likely successfully) throw Hegseth under the bus for the double tap.

Hegseth in turn will try (likely less successfully) to do the same with Admiral Bradley.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said “a couple of hours” passed before he was made aware that a military strike he authorized required an additional attack to kill two survivors, further distancing himself from an incident now facing congressional inquiry.
Hegseth, citing ‘fog of war,’ says he learned of survivors hours after strike
The defense secretary’s remarks were the most extensive public accounting yet of his involvement in the military’s lethal attack on alleged drug smugglers on Sept. 2.

In retrospect this cabinet meeting seems equivalent to Biden's team insisting on doing that debate with Trump, only with less of an audience for it.
I can't get over the fact that they scheduled a televised Cabinet meeting, hyped it as a major event, planned it all out to show how active and in control Trump is ... and then he dozed off in the middle of it. Repeatedly.

A 1959 Willys Jeep that my dad had bought off some guy at a Maine gas station as a "plow the driveway" machine. When I turned 18 and needed a car to drive to work he sold it to me for $1 on the condition I continued plowing the driveway.
QOTD: What car did you own for the shortest period of time? I had this Saab for eight months before it went kaput.

Turns out they/them pronouns are useful when you want to distance yourself from responsibility for the war crimes.
Hegseth: "As President Trump always has our back, we always have the back of our commanders who are making decisions in difficult situations. All these strikes, they're making judgement calls ensuring they defend the American people. They've done the right things. We'll keep doing that."

For sure. If Van Epps wins this Trump +22 district by single digits a whole bunch of elected Republicans in less solid seats will start eyeing the exit.
A narrow Van Epps win would be a very bad scenario for the GOP. (I won't try to spin it as worse than a loss.) No wake-up call to course-correct, but still a sign that the national environment is godawful for them and their vulnerable members are about to be lambs to the slaughter in 2026.
I've said before that Democrats need to pick this one up to shake the earth, but this result, if predictive, would be profound.

If Dems overperform Harris by this margin (15 points) in every district and state in 2026, they would pick up about 50 House seats and 5 Senate seats.

Henry IV being the first native English speaker to wear the crown
MAGNA CARTA

Fun fact: it was originally written in Latin and translated into Norman French. Because they were the two dominant languages of the Church and State for well over 300 years after 1066.

English Nationalists please note😀
