An Ohio University professor was removed from teaching a MFA class a day after returning home from an Israeli prison where he was detained upon being illegally abducted from the flotilla.

An Ohio University professor who was recently detained by Israel for trying to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza has been removed from his only in-person class this semester, according to the university. Tom Hayes, 70, was removed from teaching his in-person, master's-level film class, "Art of Editing," less than a day after he returned to Ohio from his detention in the Ktz'iot prison in the Negev Desert in Israel, he said. Another instructor resumed in-person instruction of Hayes' class this week and will teach it for the rest of the semester, Pittman said. Students walked out on the new instructor in protest on the first day of instruction, Hayes said. He plans on uploading his lectures to DropBox, so his students can finish his curriculum. He will also continue having online meetings with students to collaborate with them on their projects, he said.

Surreal to see this in CNN. What a wild week.

I feel so awful for everyone on this site.

I’ve dealt with this on a smaller scale before, which means I take a lot of safety precautions in my daily life.

But most of those listed are private citizens just thrown to the wolves.

I’m so worried.
CNN Business piece reads: “For example, Canadian independent journalist Rachel Gilmore posted that she is "terrified" about retaliation from Kirk's "far-right fans" after the shooting. That post is the first listed on the anonymous website, including a part where Gilmore said she hoped Kirk survives. She said in a video online that she did not celebrate Kirk's death and said she hoped he survives in another post. She also said she received a "tsunami" of threats and called the last 48 hours of her life "a living hell."”

This requires a full investigation by the Lakers, by Duke, and by sports media. If the allegation is true—and I have no reason to believe it isn’t—this is only possible in a team/institutional culture that would condone that kind of language.
I’ve only been called the N word to my face by a white man once in my life and it was on the campus of Duke University while I was doing work with the basketball team. And today he was named the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. What a world.

Canada immigration is just out here quietly violating the Geneva Convention by asking medics if they treated Hamas members during the visa application process.

The Canadian Press obtained a redacted letter sent to the applicant by a Canadian immigration officer, which asks if he has "ever provided medical care to injured Hamas members." If he has not, the letter asks him to say how he was able to refuse "without consequences." Kelly O'Connor, an immigration lawyer in Toronto, said she gasped out loud when she saw the text. Any medical worker who denies care to someone hurt in a war zone is committing a "serious breach of the Geneva Convention," she said in an interview.
