Whether it's garbage NYT left-bait or right wing flood-the-zone nonsense that we all pile on to, we are letting the wrong people set our overall information agenda in a very deep and fundamental way. And it's a very serious mistake.

The New York Times quickly sending out Douthat to argue that Mamdani’s victory doesn’t really matter is so predictable it borders on self-parody.

Remember, folks: Every time the Right wins an election, it’s an undeniable expression of the will of the people. If a lefty wins, it’s just a blip.

This right here, this exact sentence, is THE problem in American political journalism.

The IRA *was* cheap energy and good jobs! That was the whole bill! Democrats did precisely what political pundits are telling them to do and the pundits just ignore it.

He's building a gold-guilded ballroom to host the foreign officials who come to bribe him, while denying millions of hungry kids food. Just how thuddingly obvious, how over-the-top, how florid & theatrical does this story have to get before the media starts honestly telling it?

The widespread media decision to frame international affairs as "will Donnie get the prize he wants?" is pathetic.

He's not the protagonist of human events. And to the extent he's a significant character in world affairs, whether or not he gets a prize is one of the least important things about it.

This is fascism in a nutshell. Right here. "A counter-revolution against a revolution that never occurred."
So they promote a battle against a nonexistent huge wave of left-wing violence by committing a huge wave of right-wing violence? 🤨

Unreal. The casual reader of this @nytimes.com hed and subhed will have no inkling whatsoever that Trump's "characterization" is wildly false and that it's a bad faith *pretext.* Time to get better at conveying the fundamentally pretextual nature of these authoritarian decrees already.

My father actually believes that more people died from the covid vaccine than from covid. Can't be budged, when facts corner him he resorts to "that's what I believe" and gets viscerally angry.
He's 90, no point in arguing. He used have common sense but 2 decades of FoxNews has taken it from him.

Why? Why don't they know? Whose responsibility is it to ensure they know, how are those mechanisms failing, and what can we do to repair or replace them?

Those are the questions those who believe in journalism as public service should be asking ourselves. Because 48% is a failing grade.

Did *Trump* convince voters of this? Or are there perhaps a series of institutions in between Trump & voters, mediating what they hear & how things are framed, that affected their views? You could call them ... mediators ... or maybe, for short ...
This cycle, Trump did a good job of convincing voters he was a moderate: in our polling after the election 49% of swing voters said Harris was more liberal than they were vs 39% of voters who said Trump was more conservative than them (similar to what we saw in 2016)
