Your annual reminder that the most revealing difference between Irish and Scottish Gaelic is definitely in the words for December: Mí na Nollag (Month of Christmas) in Ireland, and An Dubhlachd (the Blackness) in Scotland. So once again may I wish you all a lovely Blackness.

My first thought on hearing it was: "So I'll be completely exposed to the elements but at least the ground will be hard and not soft."
I have a PhD in physics and can't really wrap my head around what "strong floor, no ceiling" is supposed to convey

An older Black lady got into an elevator with me when I was all dressed up for a formal thing and told me “look at you. you look like a beautiful doll baby.” No one could tell me a goddamn thing for a good 48 hours. My head barely fit through the doors to step off.

If you are visiting older relatives with pets, grab a few minutes to update their pets' microchip registration so the registries show current contact info if, quod absit, they get lost.
