Habeas corpus is the friends we deported along the way
HASSAN: What is habeas corpus?

NOEM: Habeas corpus is a constitutional right that the president has to be able to remove people from this country

HASSAN: That's incorrect

Guess I need to log off for a few days while the worst humans sound off about the suspicious timing of an aggressive cancer diagnosis.
Don't watch CNN right now if you don't want to get depressed. Brian Stelter is going on about "the timing" of the cancer diagnosis and his colleague Tapper's book. Apparently, there's something really important about that.

I thought we might get some respectful coverage at least today.

On a Mad Men re-watch and my dumb brain did me a disservice over the years: Though I loved it the first time, I remembered it as being a bit slow-moving. NOPE. Totally wrong! We get Dick Whitman clues in Episode 1 -- and these episodes are packed with plot.

it's not going well for Bears ownership. I swear the Titans' new stadium is going to be one of the last of the "allow billionaires to use public money" model. Our city had leverage but refused to even let things get slightly uncomfortable for ownership.
BREAKING NEWS:

The Chicago Bears are shifting focus to a new stadium in Arlington Heights, a project that would depend on state legislation allowing for negotiated financing of large-scale development projects.
Chicago Bears shifting their stadium focus to Arlington Heights
The Chicago Bears have flirted with leaving Chicago and building a stadium in Arlington Heights for more than 50 years.

This kid is 15, and so has a moral clarity and uprightness that no adult elected official would or could ever have. There aren't really and never have been two sides of this issue, but if it has to be argued as a binary thing I don't see how anything less than this could seem like the side to be on.
this is a letter to the editor from a high school track runner who came in second to a trans girl in a race. her state house rep in maine started talking about it. so she wrote this: www.pressherald.com/2025/05/14/r...

oof. The era of my first iPod (2nd gen), which may have contained the Blink song, the AFI song, and Reptilia (best song on this list besides Maps). But a pretty putrid time for popular music -- we all scrambled to the indie scene and (in my case) relied on cooler friends for better music

often carried a roll of Assorted Fruit Certs in my pocket in 8th and 9th grade. Sue me, I was still looking for an identity while trying not to smell like a teen.
Certs (1956-2018): A line of disc-shaped breath mints, available in flavors such as peppermint, spearmint, wintergreen, cinnamon, & assorted fruit. Famously contained no actual mint, but rather a melange of chemicals and oils known as "Retsyn", which provided the trademark flecks

so tired of hearing from guys who think there is some kind of virtue to being in the middle (as they reason, they're not susceptible to the excesses of either side). They're empty vessels.
Self-identifying as a centrist is perhaps the most cynical and amoral political identity you can have because you're just openly admitting your beliefs aren't really beliefs they're just strategic positions that only exist relative to others in the room you happen to be in

came across the most Bluesky post that's Bluesky'd: a leftist posting that they'd discovered Andor, and that the politics of it were indeed good. However, they were preemptively worried that posting about it would attract resist libs and other unwanted types ("I am not like you," etc. )

AI evangelists always say their tools will spark creativity and innovation but time and time again it only gets used to manipulate stuff that already exists. Make a dead person say new words, generate images of a famous person naked, etc

seen a few think pieces (from respected culture websites) on Revenge of the Sith. And let me state for the record, after many years to consider and reconsider: No. It was not underappreciated. It is dogshit. The lightsaber fight where Anakin gets his shit wrecked is like the only 5 watchable minutes

not the worst (I liked it and wore it out), but my most "buyer beware" CD was a used copy of Reel Big Fish's Why Do They Rock So Hard. Only it was the CLEAN version and not labeled as such. So many awkwardly spliced blips.
