This week, I explore B Corps doing good and the toll of seasonal waste. I've also collected a host of ideas on how our choices can reduce waste, support communities, and restore nature — from thrifted treasures to shared experiences, and giving that supports families and ecosystems around the world.

The Trump administration has made me a flagrant moralist in a way that has led me to tossing aside years of snark, and you know, I'm good with that. It's time to talk about what being a good person means; about why it's good to signal virtue, why it's good to press for values, not spectacle.
we all got cowed into avoiding "virtue signaling" as if the public affirmation of socially agreed upon ethical principles was somehow cringey instead of a significant part of what a "society" even is. now all there's left is vice signaling, and it's reshaping society.

Yes yes yes!

Visibility and mass protest are valuable. Multi-pronged approaches are essential for success.

People everywhere are in motion — the more we bring attention, the more we can move people toward additional action.
Every time someone jumps on socials and says there is no point to mass protest days and visible reaction in the streets, share this chart with them. The approval ratings are tanking not just because they're doing bad things but also because protestors won't let people forget it either.
Gallup poll | 11/3-11/25

President Trump approval
Disapprove 60% (+6)
Approve 36% (-5)

Correct. We really just have to use logic here.
This is what breaks through my reflexive cynicism. This is a guy who has correctly stated he could shoot someone in the middle of the street and not lose support and he is obviously panicking about this

It’s true. Don’t apologize! Enjoy your things!
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but your desire to inhale the pages of every book you pick up is something you never need to apologize for.

Anyone who tells you otherwise doesn’t belong in your circle of friends.

These bananas assholes.
🚨 💰 WOW — @SenatorHagerty & @MarshaBlackburn snuck a provision into the spending bill that would let them sue the government for $500,000 because Jack Smith looked into their phone records around Trump’s insurrection.

The Republican grifting is endless. www.nytimes.com/2025/11/10/u...

Yes. The caucus decided who would be the votes but those people did it because they agreed with it. And plenty of others must have, too, to convince them to be the public votes.

this should not be controversial 🫠

Yeah, I'm sorry, but you do not keep the government shut for more than a month and then NOT get a deal on the main item you have been messaging on without completely shifting the blame dynamic.
Major concession from Democrats here is enhanced ACA funds aren’t extended. Preserving them was Dems’ central demand in this fight. They secured a promise of a vote (which Thune has been offering for weeks), but that could still fail. Even if it passes, Johnson has made no promise of a House vote.
Tentative Senate deal to end shutdown, multiple sources tell me & @frankthorp.bsky.social:

—CR through Jan 30
—Approps minibus
—Fully funds SNAP
—Reverses Trump’s shutdown RIFs
—Promise of Senate vote on ACA subsidies by Dec second week (details/outcome uncertain)
—Led by King/Shaheen/Hassan

I know the Gemini/Pixel commercial with the vanilla ice cream is supposed to make me realize how plain iPhones are and so forth…but really, every time I see it, I want soft serve vanilla ice cream/Dairy Queen, and to have a phone that just works without shit that distracts me or takes my data.

It was a rejection of the entire administration and Dems should see this as a signal to become an actual opposition party. On everything. You don't stop the shutdown. You don't approve another appointee. You do nothing at all. The voters saved you, not the other way around. LEARN TO LEAD.
On a call with reporters, DNC chair Ken Martin responds to JD Vance claiming Dems only won big last night because races were in blue states.

"Well that's bullshit. We won in red counties, blue counties, purple counties," Martin says. And it was all "a rejection of Trump."
