This is in Mississippi—the state with the largest Black population by percent.

Nearly 4-in-10 Mississippians are Black. Yet we have "Confederate Heritage Month" and "Confederate Memorial Day."

Oh, and our 8 statewide elected state officials look like this.

They have convinced themselves that ratifying the Musk coup, stripping Murray of her appropriations leverage, and betraying their Constitutional oaths is the only viable electoral strategy for Senate Ds for 2026.

At some point, people will have to realize this about the Democratic leadership: they just don't care.
This is correct. In addition to all the other grave consequences of this bill it essentially defunds a big chunk of local DC government.
I don’t think enough attention has been put on how services for DC residents are going to be destroyed they have to find 1$ billion dollars in their budgets from schools, police, fire, parks etc

Even just holding out for a few days, making speeches, giving interviews (on Fox hopefully!) getting the word out.

Get some attention so that people will hear the other side!!!

If they have to relent down the road, so be it. But take a risk! We are in a crisis!

Next up: Schumer switches to the GOP: "As a centrist, I believe in working within the system. And our system is now a Unitary Executive state. I think I can be a moderating influence on my new colleagues as our beloved country navigates this tumultuous passage to our new national paradigm."
No Dem Senator has to follow Schumer here. This is a weak stategic move driven by fear and learned helplessness. Don't follow him. He's leading the party into irrelevance and helping Trump and Musk in the process.

Call your Dem Senators and ask them not to join Schumer's surrender tomorrow.

If Schumer brings only nine or 10 Dems to vote for closure, then he must resign as leader, because he is clearly acting against the wishes of the overwhelming majority of his caucus. He is no longer leading them; he's opposing them.
Don't take this as gospel. It's not official. It's a very knowledgable source's best understanding of the situation. This persons likely Yeses on cloture are. Schumer, Hassan, Peters, Durbin, Schatz, King, Shaheen, Fetterman, Cortez Masto and Gillibrand.

a thing about this list is that it passes the CR with the votes of safe seat and retiring Democrats, in an attempt to protect frontliners not from general-election threats but rather their own primary electorates.

schumer's protecting them from you, not the general election.

I have to say: Chuck Schumer is a weak man and a fool. This was the one cudgel Dems had. Now it's up to the courts which we new from the beginning were at best going to slow some things down. There's 18 hours left to somehow bring additional pressure to bear. It will be really hard to do that.

No alternative bill. No amendments to spare the people and children of DC from utter immiseration. No even symbolic standing up to a baldly fascist administration. Everyone to the left of Hitler should be somewhere between deposing Schumer and building a new party. This is bullshit.

I think we shouldn't be so hard on Chuck. He is faithfully serving his constituents, as he always has. It's just that his actual constituents are the same oligarchs and corporations that benefit handsomely from Trump's destruction of all fetters on their greed.
He's a weak man and a fool. This was one of the big arguments by the vote Yes Team: The moment will be more ripe in September. There's a good chance that's right, politically. But by September the federal government will be unrecognizable.
Schumer tells me Republicans might try to jam Democrats again in September, but thinks Trump will be less popular then and Republican appropriators might be more willing to stand up to him. He said they refused to do so now.
