A few years ago I turned a bunch of UKMT Senior Maths Challenge papers into self-marking MS Forms (5 questions per form) to set as optional quizzes for students, as a weekly bit of fun. To set them for your students, you need to be signed into Office 365. Click on the link to the quiz, then...

Tuesday’s lesson with Y12 was something no we talked about lots in last years A Level Pedagogy Work Group - the importance of explicitly teaching pupils how to sketch graphs. Was also good to teach them Desmos skills like rescaling the axes. #MathsToday #ALevelMaths

Promised to be better at doing a daily #mathstoday and this is my first post of the term. 🤦🏻‍♀️
Rolled out a Durham Maths Mystery to practice algebra with Y8, they loved it. Lots of resilience. 💪🏻
These resources are 20 years old and I forget they exist, rediscover them & love them all over again.

Needed a new project so I’ve decided to make worksheets and accompanying videos to review each Unit of the GCSE Maths course. Unit 1 Higher (Number) just went LIVE on YouTube. I actually think these would be really powerful as a cover lesson. Bit.ly/gcsemathsH1Vid

Episode 1: starring negative numbers, zero, fractions and rational, irrational and real numbers. And 1 + 1 = 2. And Robin Wilson.

MATHS TEACHERS: If you’re seeking ways to add quirky ‘real world’ maths to lessons next year I’ve updated my blog index robeastaway.com/blog/blog-in... .
You can use it to find odd applications of (say) quadratic equations. It’s the sort of thing you might use as a lesson starter (1/3) #TMiP25

So it took a while, but here is the write up of my MathsConf38 session - Breaking Up with Formulae: Ratio Tables are “The One”! Turns out starting a new job the same week as presenting, then a busy summer weren't ideal for getting this done before now! 😬🫣

A write up of my MathsConf38 session on the use of ratio tables to support the development the conceptual understanding of algebraic drect and inverse proportion relationships. A little late, after starting a new job the same week and a busy summer... but finally written!

Just a reminder that if you are about to start teaching #ALevelMaths, this book is available from the Mathematical Association @mathematicala.bsky.social online shop. In my completely unbiased opinion, it's really quite useful.

As the dust settles after results day and the focus of leadership teams returns to the coming academic year, I think it's natural that much of this focus sits with year 11. But if there's one thing I think we get wrong with Y11, it's giving unsupported exam practise.

🧵 Next year my team have requested CPD on using tech in lessons. eg Geogebra/ Desmos/ AI.

QUESTION 1. Can you help me by pointing me in the direction of good resources that will help me plan sessions for them on these? I’m not a technophobe but it’s not something I do enough either.

Calling all Maths teachers!

What are some of your all-time great tasks for secondary Maths?

Ones that could have their place in any curriculum, one that should be studied in PGCE courses, ones that started whole new genres of tasks...
... or just ones you really like.
