Maths right until the end of term. For the year 8 and 9 at least it was Christmas maths. The year 11 just did Surds Revision xD

#Mathstoday (well yesterday)
Before I gave my year 11 back their mock papers I wanted to give them a bit of help on how to read mark schemes. Put together 5 answers with the mark scheme to see what they think it was worth. It was quite surprising how far off they were.

Year 8 had a go at some time problems today. I was really surprised how well most of them were picking it up. (Maybe just because I hate the time unit for the ELC)

I normally wear a yellow jumper every day for work (I have 4 different ones). Today I didn't. I had 20 people comment on it to me. I think back to yellow on Monday.

Comparing 2 questions from the mocks both on completing the square. First paper where they were told the format was alot better than when they were just told the name. Definitely need to work on that gap in knowledge.

Super happy with my Year 10 lesson today on error intervals. Last year I struggled to teach it for the first time. This year I learnt from my mistakes and it went really well!

(Yesterday) Yr 10 finally got to do the rounding retrieval sheet I put together.
Today my year 8s looked at lengths. A lot of students not knowing rough estimates of items. Best one being a football pitch is 10km long!

Year 11s have done their first mock paper and none of them were doing the revision when they should have been asleep! (Had alot of sleep deprived teens last test)

I got the day off school today and a great deal on my new tv! (I know it's not maths but still!)

Starts of Mocks season this week. Paper 1 marked and all in the spreadsheet. I actually quite like marking them and seeing the mistakes (will see how many years that lasts!)

Year 8 finished their section on simplifying expressions ending with adding x^2 types to the mix. They also got to do some finding expressions of perimeter questions.

More expressions with my year 8s today with some extra questions from corbettmaths.

Had a common misconception come up while on the mini whiteboards and so I went "Oh I love this mistake"
The kids lost it, que me talking about how good it is to make mistakes in maths. (So we can obviously fix them!)

Got to start expressions with my other year 8 group today.

Year 8 started with expressions so had the virtual algebra tiles out. It's a LPA group and only about 5 could remember seeing the algebra tiles before!

Key skill with year 10 today
Multiplying and Dividing by decimals. Need more practice tomorrow as I know it's something my last year 10 group just kept forgetting.

•Year 8 worked super hard P5 today (with this rain!)

•Year 11 have been doing brilliant with Trig

Year 11 did Trig Area of a triangle. I just want to say Question 2 from Dr Austin is so lovely. Got them to properly think about what they were doing.

Year 11 did a mixed Sine and Cosine rule exercise. Felt pretty confident after the whiteboard activity that they were going to find spotting it much easier than I originally thought.

Made my mixed problem rounding task with questions from Interwoven maths and Dr Austin. Took a while.

Been doing rounding with my Year 9 and would really love to know if anyone has a bank of worded problems that require them to require them to round the answer at the end. I want to try and do some interweaving and interleaving, but don't want to spend hours finding questions.

(Well Monday and Tuesday)
Year 8s are doing area, so been all the practice for rectangles, triangles and compound shapes.
Year 11 have been doing the Sine Rule and Cosine rule.
I am not one to remember the formula so glad this year 11 get them in the formula booklet.

My year 8 group worked on area of a rectangle, then finding the area of compound shapes. Pretty impressed by how much work they got done today!

Teaching my Year 9 standard form slightly differently this time due to @jwrightmaths.bsky.social MathsConf session. Halfway through teaching positive Indies SF.
Seeing how it goes, standard form is not my favourite topic.
