Fill the blanks are a great way to get pupils thinking deeper about a mathematical topic.

They don't need any extra preparation, and are perfect to quickly throw on the board as an extension task.

I can't think of many topics where you can't use this idea. (maybe constructions)

These unit sheets are so versatile. I’ve done them with the Edexcel SoW. Set them as a cover lesson with the guiding video, use them in class as a lesson or set them as homework. Perfect for KS4. www.hannahkettlemaths.co.uk/cover

Happy New Year! Thank you to everyone who continues to support my site through spreading the word, buying coffees and reporting mistakes. Many more resources to come in 2026, starting with some harder indices practice strips I've made for my Year 9s next week. Enjoy!

Had a weird dream about factoring last night...

x², 6x and -16 are three terms. You can choose any pair or all three and it will factorise.

a) x² + 6x
b) 6x - 16
c) x² - 16
d) x² + 6x - 16

Can confirm that marking #ALevelMaths papers from back to front is a game changer. I mark question-by-question, so starting with the harder ones at the back and finishing with the quick ones at the front is simply glorious 🙌 #MathsToday
In #MathsToday this week it is mock week. I will be trialling marking my #ALevelMaths papers from back to front, because the last couple of questions are always the hardest to mark (compared to the first few, which are usually easy/multiple choice) I will update on my findings 😁

#MathsToday Used this task with a group of Y10 students. They struggled to view the task structurally, even when their arithmetic produced the result 241.
But they gained some insight with 7x12 – 6x12.

Had a very nice calm period 5 with Y7 doing some colouring in. I could hear the chaos of the elf game going on in the room next door and was very glad I’d gone for this instead! #MathsToday

Y8 expanding and factorising using algebra tiles. They needed a lot of practice of writing down the identity from the picture so we did loads of MWB questions like the 1st picture before the main task. (I accidentally differentiated too, by forgetting to give my strongest pair any tiles) #MathsToday

Now featuring 12 different songs, and recordings with my slightly dodgy piano and vocals!

Wrote these for my yr12 pures over the weekend off the back of an assessment. They were struggling with making decisions about how to use information, so made everything revolve around two points. Also threw in some ‘find k’ vs ‘find in terms of k’. #MathsToday
