How quaint
Experimental post: The Inevitable March of Time
From the moment of this post, Super Mario Bros. is now closer to World War II than it is to the present day.

Ouch
The modern equivalent of a heartbreaker is some game that no one has ever heard about that has amazing design principles that are innovative or elegant or just really well done, but that are languishing on itch because no one has ever thought to read it.

There is nothing wrong indeed
Just so we are clear. There is nothing wrong with being trans or autistic. Don't give an inch on that

I wish more people think things through to be honest
While we're on the subject, let's address the more casual kind of ableist language.

"That's insane"
"This is mental"
"It's crazy"
"How stupid"
"That's pretty dumb"
"Such an idiot"
"What a moron"
"This is lame"

All I am asking is that folks think about the words they use.

#AltTalk #Accessibility
Please stop armchair diagnosing people with mental disorders, even if you don't like them and think they're evil ✨

Stigmatising people with mental disorders is ableism/saneism and you're kinda gross for contributing to that ✨

Unsolicited writing advice, no.555: Your voice is an expression of your identity, your culture, your range, your imagination, your experience. Not every reader will like it or connect with it, but it’s the only voice you have, and it matters.

good advice
lrt: in the writing world, be wary of anything presented as a world-weary, cynical truth.

one encounters this often; i would guess more than half the time the world-weary, cynical truth is completely incorrect.

Duly noted
The Palestinian-led BDS movement has updated our priority targets, pressure targets and organic campaign targets.

Ouch, this hits me right in the spot
The shitty thing about open-world games is that many of the buildings are just facades, and the player cannot enter them.

"Holy shit. Eclairs?" Nope.

"A used book store? I've hit the jackpot!" You can't go in.

"Hell yeah! A BBQ joint!" Not for the player it isn't.

Interesting
A science-fantasy micro fiction I wrote inpired by my recent reading of Ovid's Metamorphoses.

I feel like Mörk Borg Goblins can easily become a kind of zombie with a little bit of modification and reskinning tbh
Goblins aren’t born—they’re made. If one attacks you, you’re cursed to become one too in a few days, unless you kill the goblin that attacked you. Hit or miss makes no difference. Once in goblin form, your body (except your eyes) gets a murderous life of its own. All you can do is watch and cry.
MÖRK BORG goblins taught me a great lesson in monster design

Splendid thread
Something that I have noticed among my time in philosophy, ethics, and other related fields (including creative ones) is that there is a trend for people to treat manifestos as not just declarative and aspirational, or even authoritative, but as wholly definitive.

Pardon the vaguepost.

I like this more than the "make it good later" one to be honest
saw a post i liked on tumblr today.....didnt see that they'd posted it on their account here but i wish they would its a sentiment that resonated w me more than making "good" art it's just important to make art....thanks man

Good opinion
"Dead game" discourse has twisted people's minds into thinking that if a game doesn't have 100k CCU, it's basically dead and you shouldn't play it. This basically only benefits the biggest games in the world, because it creates a narrative that only popular games are worth playing.

It is a good idea indeed
might be a good idea to start building a physical library (either on your own tech or with actual books) of marxist / socialist texts

Wow
I love this analytical take on video game categorization from Antoine Mayerowitz and Julie Belzanne:

hushcrasher.substack.com/p/taxonomy-o...

Instead of trying to vibe-intuit the definition of an "indie" game, the authors analyzed the data from the perspective of game size and credits length

Not my cup of tea, but an interesting manifesto nevertheless

Cool
Some worldbuilding of mine:

I always thought that the Bell Telephone would be the perfect design for anthros to use, so I decided that’s the one that stuck in my world! Here’s a little thing I did showing that off back in 2022.

The Wretched by @loottheroom.bsky.social. I dislike it at first tbh due to its tone (not my cup of tea) but I have come to like it as time goes by

The Wretched & Alone system that came from that game and The Sealed Library (by, well, Sealed Library) came to be the basis for When Glamour Dies
Game Designers... what was the game that got you into designing #ttrpgs and why?

For me it was Fiasco by @jmstar.bsky.social - it was/is a great game, I enjoyed playing it. The format was mind blowing but it didn't quite do what I wanted. So I wrote When The Dark Is Gone which did.

Good advice
Somewhat hilariously, YouTube's restricted mode hides my most recent video on reading game guides, but DOESN'T hide my video on the Nuremberg Trials.

My major takeaway is DON'T SELF-CENSOR YOUR OWN WRITING. You don't know what will or will not be restricted!! Do not comply in advance!!!
