I think any story about Trump's autocracy should be mostly about the people and institutions who failed to stop it. This guy isn't a political genius, everything else just happens to be rotten. 'Toddler Consolidates Power In Household' is a story about incompetent parents, not shrewd maneuvering

The 7th Circuit has written a clear, crisp opinion explaining why Trump's use of troops in Chicago is probably illegal. One thing that the opinion makes clear is that DOJ has lost a lot of credibility in terms of factual assertions.

Two senior Republican appropriators agree it doesn't make any sense for Democrats to agree to a government funding deal unless Trump actually adheres to the deal.
The Democratic alternative CR had language that would address this, but the White House came out strongly against.

Basically, as long as they can keep one district gerrymandered reliably deep red, the MO GOP can kill popular democracy in their state. A metaphor for the entire country - rigged minority rule. (with some help by some bad antiquated design in the original superstructure)
