This is an insightful but deeply upsetting article about why everyone in the US feels poor, and why the current political situation emerges as a direct result.

I'm ranking this right up there with the classic,

"Conan, what is best in life?"

"To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women!"

"That is good!"
Godzilla, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot stomp on, courage to shoot them with atomic breath, and wisdom to do a big roar afterwards

For over 300 years now, it is a bedrock principle in Anglo-American constitutionalism that obedience is owed according only to law. Refusal to follow an illegal command is not only a moral choice but an absolute duty.

We spent a year investigating billionaires for @washingtonpost.com.

We found: the wealthiest 100 Americans gave $1.1 billion to influence the 2024 elections — 140x more than they did in 2000. And almost all of that giving boosted Republicans.

'Shocked, I'm shocked I say!'

Said no on ever. The only surprising thing is that Musk is allowing this level of transparency. I'm assuming that they'll shut this down as soon as they realize what is happening.
X has changed their policy and now you can see where the accounts are based.

He's panicking. We can view that in two ways.

One, a cornered rat is at it's most dangerous.

Two, he know that the jig is up.

Both are true. Everything is going to accelerate even more now; hang on.

This is exactly what Speaker Johnson was so desperate to strip out of the bill before it left the House. He failed, but he thought that Senate majority leader Thune would take up the challenge. Thune wanted absolutely nothing to do with it; the hotest of hot potatoes it seems.

Perhaps it's time to revisit 2010's House Bill 2712. If the Trump regime insists on hoarding all of our federal taxes for themselves then why are will still paying federal taxes? If we stopped sending our tax dollars back to D.C. that would more than cover any state budget shortfall.

So many questions and so little transparency. Regarding the Epstein sex trafficking, it's beginning to feel like it'll be more straightforward to just determine who was NOT involved rather than figuring out who was. So many slimy tendrils intertwined into everything: government, media, entertainment
Why the NYT didn't report on their Epstein info is tangled up with another question: was Epstein a friend of the Sulzberger family? Epstein claims he first befriended NYT publisher "Punch" Sulzberger in the 1970s, when Sulzberger's daughter (age ~12) was at the prep school where Epstein taught. 1/

This is 100% on brand for Trump. We always knew that this is how it would go down. When it became inevitable that the Epstein files were coming out Trump would try to get in front of it by releasing his own 'version' where only his political enemies were named and false information was inserted

BREAKING: Trump now only wants the DOJ to investigate Epstein's Ties with Democrats, but still refuses to release the full Epstein files that may point to him.

RELEASE ALL THE FILES! Not just the ones which harm your political opponents and protect you.

I feel that our current struggle against the tech broligarchs and AI has much more in common with the Luddites then most folks think. The modern usage of luddite has come to mean 'anti-technology', but the Luddites of history weren't opposed to technology;

Right, the key I think is to direct the Butlerian Jihad energy against *the dudes who own the big tech companies,* who genuinely suck, rather than against the idea of technical progress in computer science

(At which point it's less of a Butlerian Jihad and more of just like, a political revolution)

When my wife and I were in our 20's, still young and fit, she had a bad accident and crushed a couple of vertebrae in her spine. She was in a wheelchair for a time and it was very eye opening to see how folks reacted to her: by all appearances young and in good shape, but in a wheelchair.

Yall real silent about disability injustices because most of you don’t see disability as a thing that can happen to you.

We are “aww those poor people”. Meanwhile disability can happen to anyone at any moment and those injustices you ignored? They become your experiences too

If any one of these senators represent you please call and/or write them ASAP. There is talk that they are planning on rolling over and surrendering to the Republicans to end the shutdown. The shutdown does need to end, but not before, at a bare minimum, the ACA and SNAP are fully funded.
John Fetterman, Angus King, Maggie Hassan, Dick Durbin, Jon Ossoff, Jeanne Shaheen, Kirsten Gillibrand, Catherine Cortez Masto, Mark Warner, Cory Booker, and of course Chuck Schumer. Maybe others not top of mind. Not all responsible will publicly vote for the cave - that's not how this works.
