Having read the paper I have questions about the quality of those equivalent width measurements that go as input, don’t really believe the fitting process for the reionization history, and think there is something wrong with the fitting for #cosmology from there.

Anyway, I'm going to do a deep read of arxiv.org/abs/2601.09644 because the claims are very bold yet not facially absurd. Any Ly-a emission experts welcome to chime in. 🔭
A New Constraint on the Optical Depth from the Reionization History Independent of CMB Large-Scale E-Mode Polarization
Recent studies report a mild discrepancy between baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) and cosmic microwave background (CMB) measurements within the $Λ$CDM framework. This discrepancy could be explained i...

I now resent I have to know about Greg Bovino, Elbridge Colby, and who is currently heading the US NORTHCOM.
I just resent that we are in a situation that requires knowing about the Dugins of the world. This guy used to post nonsense on forums under the name "Mencius Moldbug", how the hell is he on the vice-president of the United States' speed dial.

No Fed chair should be confirmed until those pressures stop, and certainly no democrat should vote for a Trump nominee to the Fed (they should not cooperate on anything anyway)

A few times a generation a physicist gets to define their subject, or a decent piece of it – David Griffiths on E&M, the Feynman lectures, or the Landau and Lifshitz series.

A while you started hearing about "David Tong's notes" but now they are books, and the latest entry in this rarefied library.

Oh god I hadn’t even thought about the future whiny articles. We must urgently secure robust public funding of academia
The entire interview with David Spergel, an eminent astrophysicist who’s moved into philanthropy, is worth a read. This part about the academic job market in math really stood out to me. Hiring cuts like this are catastrophic and have domino effects (going beyond annoying articles in Compact).

Pam Bondi is obfuscating that Maduro was indicted by the Barr DOJ on those charges back in March 2020.
The US Attorney General confirms Maduro is being charged with "conspiracy to possess machine guns" - something Republicans usually call a constitutional right.

I’m reading "Walden" by Thoreau to understand the US better and the man is infuriating because he is both extremely witty and funny, and also stuck in very adolescent views of the world and how life should be lived.

To succeed? To succeed it as a state yeah.
Makes me think of the play within the film in "To be or not to be"

Mel Brooks as Bronski as Hitler: " I don't want war. All I want is peace. Peace. Peace!
A little piece of Poland, a little piece of France"
Trump: "Russia wants to see Ukraine succeed. It sounds a little strange but President Putin was very generous in his feeling toward Ukraine succeeding, including supplying energy, electricity and other things at very low prices."
