I mean, there's "out of touch" and then there's whatever the fuck this is:
"They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

Trump: "I want the money to go into an account for people where they buy their own health insurance. It's so good. The insurance will be better. It'll cost less. Everybody is gonna be happy. They're gonna feel like entrepreneurs. They're actually able to go out & negotiate their own insurance"

The problem isn't that they caved for a promised vote; the problem is that the vote will be a meaningless gesture impressing no one but Senate Democrats.
It will fail. ACA beneficiaries will suffer considerably as a result and there will be no consequences of any kind for Republicans.

Whoa -- Sen. Durbin went to up Leader Thune during the vote last night to tell him that on the shutdown vote and ACA promise that "8 of us are sticking our neck out that you're going to keep your word. I hope you will. He said 'I assure you I will,'" Durbin says just now

Trump is 30 points underwater. Dems swept the special elections. People know the GOP is responsible for the shutdown. So the Dem Senators pulled out their big guns... and shot themselves in the foot.

Senate Democrats asked for a year of ACA subsidies and were told to fuck off.
So they came back and asked for a pinky promise to hold a vote on ACA subsidies that they will assuredly lose?
Seriously?

From what I have seen so far this does not seem like a good deal:

Trump: "They're gonna make DC a state and they're gonna make Puerto Rico a state. So now they pick up two states, four senators. They're gonna pick up electoral votes. It's gonna be a very, very bad situation. Now, if we do what I'm saying, they'll most likely never obtain power."

Who could have foreseen after everything that went down Nov 2020-Jan 2021 that if we put this guy back in power we would never have another normal election while he was president? Voters in Nov 2024 took a blowtorch to American democracy.

It's impossible to overstate how much of what ICE is doing on the ground reflects this completely preposterous conflation of hostile *speech* and hostile *conduct.*
The First Amendment protects—or, at least, is supposed to protect—the former up and until it's a "true threat," which none of this is.
The First Amendment protects—or, at least, is supposed to protect—the former up and until it's a "true threat," which none of this is.
From Bovino's deposition: (1) he calls protestors "violent" if they articulate views hostile to ICE, even if no violence is manifested; (2) he instructs his forces to attack and arrest protestors who express "hyperbolic comments," which is to say, criticism of ICE and Bovino.

Aren’t they arguing that Biden’s pardons are invalid bc he had no idea who he was pardoning?? So…
O'DONNELL: Why did you pardon Changpeng Zhao?
TRUMP: Are you ready? I don't know who he is
O'DONNELL: His crypto exchange Binance helped facilitate a $2b purchase of World Liberty Financial's stablecoin. And they you pardoned him.
TRUMP: Here's the thing -- I know nothing about it

Really stunning that the British Royal Family — just about the most insulated institution in the free world! — has managed to enact stronger consequences for an Epstein friend than anything the US has managed at all.
