This is why we fund scientists to study things like oyster slobber even if you don’t think it sounds important
⚠️ Chinese researchers have invented bone glue that mimics how oysters stick to surfaces underwater.

The adhesive can reportedly repair orthopedic fractures in 2-3 minutes, even in blood-rich environments, and is bioabsorbable.

Charlie Kirk was an asshole who did not deserve to die because a well ordered society does not make being an asshole a death sentence. It also does not make it a crime to truthfully recount who they were.

With Tom Lehrer's passing, I suppose this is a moment to share the story of the prank he played on the National Security Agency, and how it went undiscovered for nearly 60 years.

Tom Lehrer died today. He was one of the great comedians our culture ever produced. Without Tom, there's no Weird Al, probably no that entire branch of comedy.

He went alone and beat the odds.

Feels like it's time to start the rumour that Musk has had Trump fitted with a neuralink prototype and can make him say whatever he needs to.

It’s remarkable how quickly the Trump team has sabotaged all the things that actually made the U.S. influential on the global stage.

Free trade economics, strong diplomatic networks and alliances, the soft power of democratic culture and values, the hard power of a competent military …

I thought a Project 2025 backed Trump administration would be lawful evil rather than chaotic stupid, but it was always going to be horrifyingly destructive. I will be permanently astonished that anyone voted for it.

Suffering is a necessary part of life, because it tells you something is wrong and forces you to do things, but gratuitous suffering obscures that signal and is little more than pathetic self-mutilation.

Suffer when needed, but only when needed.

Hi everyone.

The Onion, with the help of the Sandy Hook families, has purchased InfoWars.

We are planning on making it a very funny, very stupid website.

We have retained the services of some Onion and Clickhole Hall of Famers to pull this off.

I can't wait to show you what we have cooked up.
The Onion Buys Alex Jones’s Infowars Out of Bankruptcy
The satirical news site planned to turn Infowars into a parody of itself, mocking “weird internet personalities” who peddle conspiracy theories and health supplements.

It will be an absolute travesty if Trump loses because of his advancing dementia or some gaffe like the Puerto Rico garbage joke, when he should lose because he's a lying bullying con-man with nothing to offer but hate and violence.

But I'll take it.

It is not an ethos for which I have any respect, and I am less and less inclined to conceal that.

I have no particular insight into Biden's cognitive health, but I'd really love to see someone deepfake Biden and Trump giving each each other's speeches and see what the commentariat made of it.
My bet: "Trump steps up on policy detail" / "Biden's decline accelerating".

When I read Hitchens "The Trial of Henry Kissinger" the thing that disturbed me about it was that very little of it was "Kissinger did this bad thing". Most of it was "Kissinger was in charge of US foreign policy when the US committed the following war crimes..."
